You would not be an odd case since almost half of the qualifiers are from medical profession. The pannel knows this equally well.
However, you can cite different reasons for the change of your profession/career like:
- Although I can serve the people through practicing medicine, however, the scope of doing something good is much larger while being in the civil service.
- Civil Service offers a more structured career path.
- The Civil Service profession has an aura of social respect and prestige.
- I find Civil Service to be more challenging.
etc.

@ atropa

Remember one thing it is no issue whether u r dr. engineer, banker or in any other luckrative job. Panel will cosider psychological report that is very important.Report will show ur aptitude to respective service

The important thing is, be very careful in answering this question.

Why u want to leave ur profession and join civil service?

maliasghar mention good points. I give u an ex from which u can extract an idea for himself.

Dr. Aslam Shahzad SSP We asked sir, panel asked u this question. u r doctor y u want to join civil service? He told us i gave following answer:
When i practiced during house job and after that i observe that oxygen cylinders were not filled completely. But the patient pay full charges of that cylinder. During operation or in emergency, that half filled cylinder finish before time. As aresult patient had died. Administration was involved in this. Then i made my mind to join such post in civil service where i will be able to ask such people. That is y i want to join civil service as ASP.

U brainstorm ur career u can easily find various reasons y u want to join civil service. Remember those moments when u planned to appear in css. u will find the answers of ur questions.

If u dont find any then make any story which u can justify. Be careful in mentioning any thing because u have to justify those in counter questions

Think of whatever you've been doing in this time. Assisting your parents in business, writing, travelling etc. It should be anything but also try to show it as a meaningful experience. That should work well. Here's my example.

I did my engineering in 2008, could find no job and gave the exam in 2010. Its a two year period i got to show. I'm going to say that I have written articles for a newspaper as well as worked as a progressive date farmer. Apart from that i travelled to various regions of the country, had interactions with different people and started a process of learning new languages and so on.

@ jav ria

First thing u should kept in mind is that u can not hide any thing from Psychologist. He will ask same thing in different ways. If ur answer contradicts in different ways of same question, then psychologist consider u a cheating person. Such situation will not help u.

So in order to avoid such situation, there r two ways :

1) U planned and cram ur personality in such a away that u could hide ur weaknesses and show ur good points. U should b very careful in written portion and interview of psychology. Whatever u will write , u have to justify that before interview panel.

As time is very short in written portion. In short time u will write only those things which actually ur personality has. If u cram good points for ur personality then u will b able to write them in hurry.

2) U speak truely about urself. dont bluf psychologist.

U mentioned that there is a gap of 4 years from end of ur education till css attempt. Panel wil ask wat u did in that period?
Nothing is no answer.

U should recall that period and write in note book what actuall u did a along prepration of css. U dont give answer, i remained busy in css prepration. This answer do not give proper expression. If u did not find any thing, then u prepare a planned and managed story which actually shows that u did the same task. Now it is ur mental ability that how much better a planner and manager u are?
