Default Time required for preparing Accountancy.

Hi,
I need assistance opting accountancy as I plan to take css '15.
I have absolutely no accounts background but I've been involved in maths related subjects lately.
I believe that I can develop interest in such a subject, also because I've heard that it gives you nice score.
So how much time would be required roughly to prepare Accounts and audit from scratch, in supervision of a fine trainer.
with Best Regards.

Hello!
You need at least 6 months to prepare for this paper. If you're only aiming to pass then 3 months might be enough (If you only study accounting during this period). That's the minimum time required. Because accounting is a set of loads & loads of concepts that we study in 4 years and nearly all those concepts are tested in CSS exams. Some more, some less but the examiner does test nearly all of those. I've done ACCA but I dropped the idea of scoring high the moment i saw the paper.

From the last attempt the examiner has started testing theoretical knowledge as well. Like Accounting Standards etc. These question have been added to reduce the chances of scoring high because nobody can score high in theoretical questions. Now it's very difficult to score high. Furthermore, the paper tests substandard and outdated accounting concepts which is unfair and non-professional way of testing but it happens. These things make this paper even more difficult.

Hope this helps

well bro i don't know who suggested you to opt accounting but in my opinion it may cause a big trouble for you because accoutancy and auditing need so much practice after having full command on its concepts. I have a fully accounting background and now doing acca but i personally din't opt it because of the reason given above . Seniors who have done with this subject will guide you better .

Thank you brothers, it certainly was quite mind clearing. What I'm in fact doing here is searching for my options as I belong from Total Computer System side and more or less any subject would be new for me and would take enough time.
I'm unable to select 200 marks any suggestions for me in terms of scoring yet easy subject(s) "apart from" Foreign or regional Languages and Computer Science...

I also faced the same problem. Actually everyone has to find one or two subjects which they wouldn't have studied before.

I think Business Administration is a good 100 marks subject. It's a theoretical subject but very light and easy to understand. You also don't need a teacher for it. I love this subject only because it's very close to common sense. I would be happy to help you with this subject.

But the problem is you still need to find another 100 marks subject. what about Mercantile Law? It's theoretical, lengthy but interesting and easy to understand. It's the law of business. the law that applies to buyers and sellers. But you might need help from a teacher. I chose it as my father is a lawyer. But it is a very lengthy subject. It's as lengthy as Islamic History.

Another suggestion is, have you any interest in Islamic History? I had never studied it before but chose it as a subject in CSS. It's a 200 marks subject. It is also related to Islamic Studies. It's lengthy but very interesting. And if you get guidance form someone, it's also not lengthy. CSS examiner always tests same topics. if you can translate from urdu to english with ease then don't read english books, buy a good quality urdu book on Islamic history instead and read it from cover to cover in 5 or 6 days. Please DO NOT try to remember anything. Just write down every interesting event with its date so you'll never have to read the book again. Later on quickly go through an enlgish book and if you like match it with your notes. But I won't suggest this subject unless you have interest in history and reading stories.

That's all i can suggest, if you need more help or want me to suggest any books on the subjects i have discussed above, just let me know and I would be happy to help.

business administration
you can opt these subjects or any one or two of them. All of these are easy but u have to prepare well for journalism because many students are opting this subject so marking will be comparative for this.
but which ever subject u chose give it ur best.
Good luck

@Score, I think Accountancy & Auditing has lost its charm of being scoring. One needs to be quite conscious before selecting that subject; in my opinion at least.

Dear,I went through your 2013 DMC where you said ' Accounting & Audit 108 (Last attempt was with 158)', link: http://www.cssforum.com.pk/css-dates...lifiers-3.html

I would like to know, what went wrong with you in Accounting & Audit in 2013? How can your score in a numerical subject be that low when you already had once secured a high score in the same subject! Was it the paper that was too difficult this time or was there anything else that went wrong?

@ Dear Ahsan,
In my personal opinion Accountancy is no more an attractive option to opt for CSS Examinations.
Following are the major reasons of it:
1.Lengthy syllabus.
2.Very difficult objectives.
3.Tendency to shift from British to American Approach and vice-versa.
4.Low scoring trend since the last year etc.

You must search other suitable option eg Geography, I.Law etc
