I know it has to do with the 2 world wars and cold war but I'm unable to form a proper outline.

I don't know the exact answer but will try to answer with common sense.

International relations means increased association, propinquity or reliance among countries.so this inevitable association increased because of following factors

1)population
World population increased approximately twenty times since 17th century. William Petty estimated world population in 17th century to be 320 million or 0.32 billion. Now world population is estimated to be 7.4 billion. (Statistics from Wikipedia). So this gradually increasing colossal population needed relations.

2)technology
Technological revolution abridged distances and brought closer different people.
Moreover, technology brought lethal and hazardous weapons, lead to jeopardized world,resulting in “international relations

3)war
For centuries, wars remained source of interaction. World 1 and 2 played important role to form international community. Alliances, pacts,treaties all are the end product of war.Even UN was formed to avoid catastrophe like that of WWII.

Globalization... have all these factors.
