Any senior with engineering or medical background who appeared with Pol Science in any attempt?

If you don't have background in political science, then dont opt for it.
The course is far more extensive and technical then that of IR or Economics..you have to study about philosphers, 15-20 of them each with their own different theories..and that only constitutes a fraction of the course! The scoring average has been dropping consistently over the years. I believe the average score in Css-2014 was around 105, which was the lowest for a 200 mark paper beside Indo-Pak history and English Literature Take a look at this old thread, students with little or no background in PS selecting this subject and then deeply regretting it. http://www.cssforum.com.pk/css-optio...const-law.html |

Do you think the course of IR is comparatively short and doesn't need any expertise or sound background?
To be honest I feel that IR is much more vast than it seems; no matter how much one gets consumed with it, the gaps remain. On the other hand Pol Science atleast has a defined course outline and can prove to be a safe choice if well prepared. |

Should I assume there's no one around who ever opted Pol Science without background?

when are you attempting the CSS exams?..if in 2017, then i wouldn't recommend opting PS, because of the in-depth study required. pick IR coz much of its course is general knowledge and current affairs..
IR also helps in English Essay, Current affairs, Pakistan studies, European history and International Law papers. and im not trying to discourage you from Political Science, if you have more time on your hands, then sure you can go for it...build up your base from the Mazhar-Ul-Haq book on Political Science. |

I am from engineering background.
Firstly I have interest in this subject. Secondly, it is an interesting subject. I know people who prepare well and get 130+ marks. All you need is extensive study. Give time to it and it will surely give you something in return. Start from Mazhar Ul Haq book. If you develop interest then opt it. Regards |

I did. I found it pretty interesting probably because of the fact that I have had a strong interest in it. If you can strictly adhere to the syllabus and have the right resources in your repertoire, then you should opt for this subject. It might take you some time to adjust to the nature of preparation that this subject might need, considering the fact that you have an engineering background. Whether or not you have an interest in the subject matters a lot more than what your academic background is.
