The simple Answer to this question is , yes one surely can. I myself prepared this subject without any external help from any tiptoe or academy. I secured 140 marks in Arabic in my previous attempt. Therefore , I can say with responsibility that this subject can be prepared at one's own.

If yiu have seen the apaper , the Paper II contains two questions of translation which can give more then 30/40 easily. 40 mcqs ( collective of both papers ) keep on repeating. ( 30+ from these also can be obtained with slight concentrated effort) 30 marks short questions also can give maximum out of these if attempted correctly. The rest of the paper consist of theoratical questions. In this way , one can see that paper pattern is of such nature that of one can prepare this paper well , one has very bright prospects of getting good marks. As well as the material for it's preparation is concerned , I relied on notes by Prof Hafiz Arshad Sahb , the only known name for Arabic in Lahore. I started the preparation from Translation Portion. And step by step proceeded ahead.

Arabic is quite easy subject .
I selected it due to 2 reasons that i had to change psychology and secondly because i think being a Muslim learning arabic will be much better as compared to other languages as in this way i will become a better Muslim and a better person . So have these points in view and go for it . May Allah help you

@ Muhammad Ali : Dear the reasons for opting a subject should be either it's being good scoring or of it's being according to one's aptitude or interests so that one can prepare it with ease without getting fed up. Yes it's being a better replacement of some other subject also is a good reason but that also involves above mentioned reasons. For meeting other ends one can read any subject. Like if you want to be a good Muslim you can study Islamic History or Fiqa and Hadith etc.
