criteria/parameters of selecting news:-



a)timeliness.(immediacy,when did it occur)

b)proximity(mental, geographical)

c)magnitude(how many/how much is(are) at stake?)

d)change(very existence or absence)

e)consequence (what is forthcoming due to this news

f)prominence( of names/events associated with particular news)

g)oddity/novelty/unusualness

h)conflict/crime

i)sex

j)drama (suspense,mystery,emotional nuisance )




1)inverted pyramid/summary lead:-

a)1)climax 2) detail/story 3) introduction

exact opposite of literary writings

2)lead:-

a)beginning of the story/first para or may be line of 25/30 words

b) ingredients of good lead:-

who,what,when,where,why

c)types of lead:-

summary,punch,picture,contrast,question,quotation, freak

3) types of news & corresponding treatment/structuring:-

a) fact news

b)statement/quote news

c)action news

4)prerequisites of writing:-

a)brevity/concise b)balance c)accuracy d)objectivity (you can skip this point if you want,considering time management & the way you attempted other portions of question)

4)things to avoid while writing news-story (e.g lead disagreeing body of story,unanswered questions/unknown characters,half truths etc)

Somehow they overlap so no need to panic.Just take values as what multiplies the importance of a news story & components as the same elements a drama requires.Life is a drama,suspense/mystery/conflict/emotional ups&downs/intimate relation with opposite sex/conflict/money/religion etc are part/scenes of this drama...news is all about showing you this drama right in the printed words of newspaper.

News values/determinants/elements are same thing.These are what a reporter look for to write a story.How these things are assessed or how a reporter "smell" the importance/impact of news is "nose for news".
Now about components all ingredients of drama are it's components..(main emphasis should be on
Religion
Money
Crime
Lust/sex
uniqueness
Extremes
Human progress
Emotionally stirring
suspense,mystery

These are components (remember,they overlap!!!!) you can put "Masala" elements like above in components & enlisted parameters in my post #1 as values of news-story.
