My dear the books recommended by FPSC are no doubt of good standard books written by prominent experts of those subjects. And they are general books written on those subjects and are not particularly meant for CSS. Therefor every subject , FPSC has recommended number of books and together they all cover the syllabus. But , covering all those books for a subjects' preparation demands huge investment of time and energy. On the other hand , the books we widely use and recommend for css have particularly been written for CSS keeping in view the demands of the syllabus. Therefore , by using one or two such books , one can prepare whole syllabus of a subject in a convincing manner. At the same time few of the books recommended by FPSC are used also owing to their less bulky size and their ability to cover sufficient portion of the syllabus. For example I am using book of Southgate for the preparation of British History which is among recommended books for British History by FPSC. In the same way Islami Nazria Hayat is used for Islamyat. I hope the thing would have got clear.
