Media and Indo-Pak cold war.
Crossing border of an independent country without declaration of war is crime. Usually this type of operations are covert and are performed by Special Services Group/Seals etc. In case a country is caught doing such thing then it is criminal offense as per international law. These operations are performed usually for offensive purposes by many countries in world and are considered important part of war strategy.
Indian commandos crossed LOC to perform a covert operation but they got exposed. India was criminal as per UN laws and was under immense diplomatic pressure. Because the operation was exposed and as per law Pakistan was in position to declare war. Western powers interfered to avoid any possibility of war. Pakistan is not parallel to India in conventional war but Pakistani nuclear weapons are way better and more in number than India. This war would surely had led to nuclear war resulting in deaths of millions of civilians of both countries. Thanks to world powers who timely interfered and avoided the possibility of nuclear war. During the diplomatic fight and on going cold war the civilian on both sides of border were madly supporting war. In India Shiv Sena's pro-war speech were showing the immaturity. Pakistani actors were threatened. The emotional news on media in both countries worsen the situation. All this was indirectly pressurizing the Indian government to go for war. On the other hand world powers were pressurizing India to refrain from engaging in war. It is usually difficult to handled this sort of pressure when you clearly understand going to war is madness but your voters are forcing you to go for it. PM of India handled it well by diverting the attention of people to poverty from war in his speech. Pakistani government behaved really maturely. I must appreciate the way the handled it understand pressure. But Pakistani masses and media performed really bad in this crisis. Instead of educating the people about war and its consequences media was running pro-war campaign. Emotional speeches are great source of motivation for young soldiers but the governments of both countries and generals do understand the possible consequences of war and they themselves avoid the possibility of war. But these emotional television programs are badly affecting the common civilians. They take nuclear war as an action movie. This whole thing started when India killed Burhan Wani which provoked protests in Kashmir. At first place killing Wani was mistake. Indian command should have known it would result in political crisis and when protests started India military made even bigger mistake by blindly using AFSPA powers against weaponless civilians which worsen the political crisis. The pictures of Indian military killing the Kashmiri protestors in great number, molesting women were circulating on social media. The Pakistani diplomats took it as best opportunity to raise Kashmir issue in UN. The pictures were proof of human rights violation and it showed the Kashmirs' anti-India sentiment which would have made Pakistan's case stronger and possibility was that UN would have voted for referendum in Kashmir. On diplomatic grounds India was in tight corner. Soon Indian military base was attacked in Kashmir by insurgents. Which happened on the same day when Pakistan raised the issue of Kashmir in UN. The timing of attack made me suspicious as this attack changed the sentiments of world from pro-Kashmir to pro-India. I believe the attack was staged by India and she successfully came out of tight diplomatic corner. Later the Indian military claimed the covert operation was a chase and kill operation against those attackers. During all this war tension and world powers trying to refrain both countries from war the Kashmir issue vanished somewhere. Diplomatic fight between Pakistan and India on Kashmir issue, water issue and other such issues is acceptable but it must never lead to actual war. |
