Eye Opener: A speech from Lord Mcaulay
"I have traveled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such calibre, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage, and, therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem, their native self-culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation."
Lord Macaulay's speech in the British Parliament on 2nd February 1835. Note: Some British historians doubt the authenticity of this speech. |

But if we talk about pakistan, it is a county with precious people and with rich ideas, yet not known on public forums. And if we talk about English language, its a poor language, we know that russian and german literature is more rich than english literature and Russian, french and German philosophies works for years. We have adopted english as a heaven's tongue, but really it is not. "Derrida said, we are only interpretator, mediators", and i have to say that, english is a mediator for us and nothing more than this.

no they were well aware of all the nations living there. Its our textbooks that make us think that they were not aware and stuff. They were trading long before they took over and trade mainly happened with muslims because muslims were controlling the government at that time. They were very well aware of the demographics of this region. For British or any colonial power, the ethnic population dint matter at all. They were just concerned about their own economic progress for which they had to find ways. The most important one:temper with the culture...so they gained what they wanted by infiltrating our cultures(both hindus and muslims).
they look at india as a hindu state because it is basically dominated by hindus. That is the religion of the majority. How do you look at Iran or Saudi Arabia? But in many european publications of today India is declared as a secular state. They do not talk about its religion.

well indian subcontinent being a home to different nations n groups f people faced many conflicts from within.whenevr a nation is defeated external factors do count but if the attackd society is itself integrated its even harder to conquere it.so no matter this peice f statement is authentic or not, every society possess weakness whereas this sub continent was suffering through numerous dilemmas.e.g indians who faced numerous dynaties ruling over them n one dynasty soon rooted by another, they were tired of centuries old mughal dynasty.of course this is not the only factor f british sucess over indins!

This speech is about to change the ancient education system and culture. (culture is a combination of genetically developed habits) I think, indian culture has not changed itself, you can pick it at Star plus, too minor things matter in their life and that's happening from years.
Their education system, means, GAYAN's achievement and Rama's teaching that are still working in hindu education system. Hindu philosophy is different from all the philosophied of the world, their logical system is different from ancient Greek's logical system. That's what their education system is. Now hindu critics, cirticize their people, their culture, they say, if you reman the same, world will conquer you. Post-modernsim fell after Second world war, but indians with respect to their culture, still waiting for modernism.
