As far as i think the main cause of third world war will be water and oil i mean economical imbalance ( economism).
other possible causes could be:
(1) Afghan war
(2) US-IRAN tension
(3) ISRAEL-HIZ-BULLAH conflict.
(4) ISRAEL-Palestine Problem.
(5) present condition of Pakistan.

most probably WATER will be the cause of 3rd World War (if it occurs).... and i think if it starts... it will be a pak-indo war, leading to world war

cause of a third world war would be the same as that of first and second world wars, i.e. to prove dominance and hegemony. and i think it will be ignited by antisemitism still prevalent in the world. water or energy could not spark a world war, as we, or atleast I , dont see any precedent of a large scale war started over a water dispute.

jiashah is right that it will be the water for which war starts,and she is right that it may be starts from this region and main characters can be Pakistan and India.
Because of the climate change and growing human population now its tough to manage a very little water which is useful for life and agriculture,
only two or three percent of total water on earth is useful for the life and agriculture ,and because of growing population,demand is increasing which is
alarming about that danger which will be occur in our future,and by the time when things become matter of survival then probably such issues will be
on the priority of countries and
may be the 3rd world war will be for the surveillance of the nations and countries.
And if we think that it will starts from Pakistan and India then
then there are some reasons of it,
we can see water crises in our country, even our provinces are fighting for the water.
India also planing for the controversial "KISHAN GANGA" Dam on Indus river which results shortage of water in our country,
means cost of that water will be payed by us.
our economy relies on our agriculture and if India keeps completing such projects then most probably it will makes trouble for us ,and if it becomes matter of survival of us then definitely our decisions will be tough and that result can be in shape of a war.
But there are international court which resolve water disputes and Pakistan and India can resolve it but there is little chances of it because in history India blocks water of Pakistan.
And you see when water will be the core issue of countries then oil or other form of energies become the second priority,and most probably 3rd world

war will be not for land , oil , gas or gold.

here is my rationale for why a third world war, if started in near future, will not be incited by a water dispute. there is a difference in a conflict, war and great war, or world war. the world wars already staged were fought between two power blocs, and those blocs were in place before the start of world war. but today we dont see any compatible power blocs who can inflame a world war. the US and europe are militarily allied under NATO, and moreover, european society has a more continental and racial tendancy today, hence they consider US as their big brother. or you can say that europe is united under united states. there is a possibility that a power bloc will emerge from asia in the not near future, and therefore a future great war may take place between the two continents.

scarcity of water may cause widespread chaos and turmoil, not a world war as we know it.

an indo-pak war will not escalate to a world war, unless china is satisfied with her progress and expresses willingness to expand her influence, i think.

The next world War if it does happen would be most probably based on "clash of civilization theory". One is surely going to be western civilization led by USA and/or Europe and the other may be most probably Muslim civilization or Sino civilization (with some Allies) the reasons are clear and many.

Water and Energy

Dear Mhmmdkashif i think it is not like this as you mentioned because in my post i said that water issue become matter of
life and death ,and we will suffer more for this,now you see because of conditions if war begins between India and Pakistan then initial step of both countries will be gathering allies, who can fight with for us or help us in any other form in war.
Then those allies will become part of this war and then there are major chances that new power bloc can be emerged in
future,in which china America UK Russia Israel Iran Afghanistan can play the main roles.
China will be definitely on side of Pakistan, not only for the help of us but in that war china can achieve its own goals.Two territories are currently disputed between the China and India Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh,Arunachal Pradesh is located near the far east of India, while Aksai Chin is located near the northwest corner of India, at the junction of India,and Pakistan,and because of growing Indian industry china is losing grip on the international market,so may be these will be main reasons of china's alliance with Pakistan in future war.
And in that war may be Iran contribute for our side taking it as a war against Muslims and if we are attacked then definitely our
neighbor Muslim countries will not feel safe and they will fight for us expect Afghanistan. Because we are the only Muslim nuclear
power country and we are the tough target for the world as compare to other Muslim country , if we become
target then it will be hard time for other Muslim countries and in war Iran may be target Israel,and when Israel become the target then may be America fight from the side of India,and Afghanistan who is best ally of India will be with
Indians,and when America is fighting for the India then UK will be with them and so on conditions can be like this and power bloc will be emerged.
and Russia and sir ya can be part of it.
