Mega Industrial City Project in Punjab
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has given a go-ahead to Punjab Board of Revenue (BoR) to acquire 100,000 acres of land for setting up a ‘mega industrial city’ in the province with the financial assistance of the Chinese government and industrialists.
The land will be acquired in Pind-Dadankhan tehsil of Jhelum district for the project which envisages a Chinese industrial hub in Punjab to boost trade and business by involving Pakistani business community, it is learnt. Talking about salient features of the project, the sources said the industrial city would have state of the art facilities including excellent roads, spacious space for industry, uninterrupted and underground electricity and gas supply systems, power plant, police security, sports halls and grounds, residential colonies, 24-hour transport service, airport, helipads, parking areas, schools, colleges, worship places, shopping malls, plazas, offices, goods export counters, containers and bus terminals, taxi stands, post offices, swimming pools etc. They said the Chinese government and industrialists would bear the entire cost of developing the industrial city whereas the Punjab government would only provide land, besides technical, logistic or administrative support required in this regard. They said there would be an open invitation to Pakistani business community to enter into joint ventures with the Chinese entrepreneurs for establishing industry in the new city in case they were interested in becoming a part of the project. The sources believed the Chinese government and businessmen were keen to establish this industrial hub on a priority because they wanted to export products worth $100 billion to the Middle East and other countries by using Gawadar seaport. “The project would revolutionise economy of Pakistan by increasing exports, technical expertise and capacity building, and decreasing poverty and unemployment,” . |

Although the step is really great but once the industrial city is constructed, who will supply energy resources to run the industries ?
The first step of government should be to mechanize the already existing areas, develop them and then take steps to further incorporate more projects. |
