After the British defeat in America, the British signed the 1783 Paris treaty and that was a mere formality. Would the British have left the 13 colonies on their own and signed them away voluntarily? It was a war that made them sign the treaty. In fact, signing the treaty was a mere formality in the end because the British had been successively driven out of the 13 colonies by 1783 anyway. However, despite the treaty, only in 1861, the British were busy sending supplies to the breakaway Confederates of the American Civil War. So much for the treaty.

Even then, a treaty that comes into existence because of a war cannot be examined in isolation and it must be taken into consideration what events brought it into existence. For instance, would the Germans and the Japanese have sued for peace without Operation Overlord and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
