The first and foremost thing is that the proposed election system lies in ensuring that it is tranparent and impartial...that is impossible here in pakistan...here the electoral process expressed serious concerns regarding the independence of the Election comission of pakistan, the restriction on political parties & their candidates, the misuse of state resources, deficiences in the compilation of the voting register and significant issues relating to the provision of ID cards etc.... the other thing wat i dnt like is that the sovereign people elect people amongst themselves to rule the country with the power they delegate to them so those representatives rule to their fullest satisfaction..hardly any 1 of the political leaders is or ever was among the people otherwise they were and still are elites, top barriters, title holders etc....in fact in pakistan leadership has become a family affair inherited by next generations..these are some of reasons because of which electoral system is not reliable and is in poor condition...

Electoral system as much s i understand encompasses laws, rules, regulations , infrastructure and resources. To this extent our system is not bad , to say the least. Though resources scarcity exist , but still it is functional. Absolute transparency is some thing that exists only in books, otherwise every system in the world contains short comings.

However our Electoral Politics' Dynamics are not befitting of a democratic society. Candidates are voted in , not for their competence , integrity but for other considerations of petty nature such as influence, baradriasm , personal links etc. This happens mostly in rural constituencies that constitutes around 70 percent of total seats.

In rural areas, the decision to support a candidate by the majority of villagers rests with few individuals./ These influential wants to perpetuate their influence so they bargain with the candidates on personal grounds. They want SHO, Patwari, Tehsildar of their choice. In this whole process a common villager has no say. Any attempt to defy will be retaliated so no option but to toe the line. Conseuqntly , the local candidate of MPA/MNA has to deal with few individuals.

Against this backdrop, if a well reputed person contest election in these areas, he/she is bound to lose.If you have to do politics in these areas , you have to follow the suit of this dirt game.

So what we need is not electoral reform, the problem is too complex and deep rooted so needs to be seen in much broader spectrum.

Election, more than any thing else, is a social event so it reflect the general beliefs and values prevailing in the society. These values are reflected in our daily life. What we need , is a social change. Untill this change takeplace , our politics will remain riddled with all the evils.

I think it's impossible even to being satisfied with any system in Pakistan, whether its electoral system, political system, education system, economic system or any other system, due to the lack of transparency, accountability, merit and management. The situation of electoral system is worst in rural areas, where voters even don't know the meaning of elections and importance of ballet. Most of the educated people hesitate to cast the vote due to faulty electoral process. Election commission is a formality and it don't regulate the electoral system properly. There should be a standard computerized system in my opinion.
