Default The West: More Muslim than Us

Another article I wrote a while back:

Islam is about so much more than the separation of males or females, or dressing modestly or even praying five times a day! It’s a guide to building a peaceful, prosperous society where everyone feels secure and at the very core of such a society is not the covering up of women or outdated morals as some would like to think, but Justice. Justice must form the basis of any society that can, by any stretch of the language be called “Islamic”. And sorry to say, Justice is the last thing you will find in our own so called Islamic Republic…

Supremacy of Law is a central part of Islamic legal system, but is it seen in Muslim countries? What about the self-styled bastion of Islam, Saudi Arabia? Sad indeed, to see a monarchy functioning in the land of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH… And then we have Pakistan, where our leaders are comfortably above the law, as proven by the recent scandal involving the Prime Minister. In contrast, the law reigns supreme in the country we love to hate aka the United States where everyone is answerable to the courts of law. The Most Evil Country in the World following the example of Hazrat Umer (R.A)!

I think we’ve all heard about the time when the Prophet PBUH said that he would cut off even Fatima’s hand if she committed a theft. At the same time he mentioned the destruction of nations who forgave the strong and punished the weak and now we come to the main point: Equality in the eyes of the law and once again we are outclassed by the Evil West. In our own beloved Islamic Republic, you can pretty much get away with anything (and I mean ANYTHING) if you spend enough cash (well connected people get massive discounts, sometimes up to 100 %!) One of the most recent examples is multi-billion the Ephedrine scandal involving the Premier’s son who now seems to be in the clear. One can’t help but wonder if Bush’s kids can get away with a multi-billion dollar scam in the US. Speaking of Bush, let’s not forget that Bush’s niece, Noelle Bush was arrested after she tried to obtain a prescription drug fraudulently while her father was the Governor of Florida and her uncle (George Bush) was the President of the United States! Can you imagine that happening in Pakistan?

Some time back, a video was making rounds of the web that showed a man being tortured by an Arab sheikh. The man was an Afghan grain dealer and the Arab was Sheikh Issa, the UAE President’s brother. In the video, Sheikh Issa is shown beating the man with planks, whipping him and then driving over him with his SUV, all because the Sheikh was allegedly cheated in a small business deal. Hardly the pastime of a devout Muslim, I think.

And what happened in the end? Well, the court (if it can be called a court) ruled that the Sheikh had been drugged and was therefore, unaware of his actions. Methinks the country is a blot on the name of Islam…

Last year a 13 year old was gang raped and then paraded naked in Vehari by members of a local landowning family just because they had a small scuffle with the girl’s brother! There was a lot of hue and cry, but as usual nothing came of it. There are hundreds upon hundreds of rapes in Pakistan that go unpunished as we all know, but I think this one example will suffice here. The point I’m trying to make is that even though there are rapes everywhere in the world (and certainly a lot in the US); a rapist in the UK or the US at least has a CHANCE of being punished, which is more than can be said for Pakistan. Western law is extremely strict about rapes (at least US law is) and even though some people are let free for lack of evidence, the vast majority go to jail for very long times (and American jails are about as tough as they come). In any case, no person in the US can get away with parading a 13 year old girl naked in the streets. Never in the US and NEVER in an actual Islamic society!

Racism was part and parcel of American life for centuries and yet there have been astounding developments after the American Civil War, from the emancipation of the slaves after the war to the Civil Rights Movement of the 60’s to the election of the first black President! Americans pride themselves on having thrown down racial barriers and yet Islam taught us the same thing 1400 years ago when the Prophet PBUH ordered Hazrat Bilal to climb the Kaabah and deliver the Azan.

Sadly, Muslims refuse to see the big picture, preferring to argue over petty religious or moral issues instead. The fact that in Pakistan, a picture of a topless Veena Malik causes a greater reaction than a picture of an innocent woman mutilated by acid is truly heartrending, as are all the crimes committed in the name of honor and religion. The tenets of Islam are applicable to all, not just Muslims and those who follow them will prosper, regardless of their religion. In essence then, the Westerners and way more Muslim than we’ve ever been.

Ibn-e-khaldun, through his research on sociology, has depicted the fact that 'justice' is the fundament of any nation. Without justice, a nation is disintegrated and deteriorated. The instance is rightly applicable on all Islamic world, including Pakistan.
