Unfortunately, I don't see this project going a long way, mainly because of funds and secondly due to American diplomatic pressure. Current government decided to kickoff this project on their death bed, I don't know whether it is just a political stunt or they are sincere about it? Iran has agreed on soft loan but where this project will head towards after 2014? It is a big question. Though Iran has constructed 900 Km out of total 1600 Km channel yet it demands much more commitment from Pakistan's end.

I have serious doubts about the success of this project. Given the fact that elections are approaching and electoral considerations are dominating the political agendas, there is every possibility that this project is but an attempt to hoodwink the masses by proving as to government is trying to do its best to redress the grievences of people. Moreover, the nature of Iran's relations with international community, especially with US and Pakistan's economic problems are few of other stumbling-blocks which can hamper the progress of both countries to achieve their desired goals. Indeed, Pakistan is in acute need of such projects, for energy crises has reached to its worse point. The problems which are the direct outcome of this dismal scenario need no elucidation.

If really sincere, bold and promising steps are taken by those who are at the helm of affairs, we can hopefully see some light at the end of tunnel. Otherwise, hollow promises, futile efforts, and irrational noises can only aggravate the already deteriorated conditions.

It was for sure a political stunt. Iran has completed its section in 2011, and Pakistani govt: has been dragging feet on the project since 2008. The current ruling party seems to have no hope of electing to power again, that's why it has initiated it on their death bed so that the repercussions shall be borne by the next govt.

Lets be optimistic!
Funds are not an issue. Out of $1.5 billions cost of Pakistani section of pipeline, Iran will provide $500 million. It is also being said that China has agreed to finance Pakistan for this project.
-
As for pressure from Washington, Pakistan must take this issue to UN.
Pakistan can take stand on grounds that Pakistan is in a serious crisis and by going for this project, she is not violating any law or rule.
-
US needs Pakistan. So It wont (should not) impose any serious sanctions on Pakistan (its forefront ally in war on terror).

Iran Pakistan gas pipeline is surly a good project. it more looks like a dream project. it will bring gas to Pak ..........but....that gas is too expensive.

rest the US role in this project and US sanction on Iran that all can easily handel because
Pak Iran gas pipeline project was signed before US sanction. and Pakistan if withdraw from the project will suffer as Pak will have to pay 2 million per day pelenty to Iran after dead line.

so Pak Govt will surly consider its benifits ( if sincere to Pak )

but mean while Pak Govt should manage the present stock of gas in Pakistan.

Default Pakistan Iran Gas pipeline

According to facts and figures and the current situation in our countary IP gaspipeline project is just an election publicity stunt. Mr. Zardari is just trying to get some goodwill, meanwhile U.S also dont want pakistan to get rid of energy crisis thats why causing hindrance. The project cost is almost 1.5 billiion U.S dollars. Currently pakistan is a defaulter for payments to IMF and World bank and Iran is defaulter of Ukraine and India for wheat and rice payments. Current economical conditions of both countries are worse, so they they can't complete the project on their own. U.S is a great rival of Iran thats why we are not getting international help regarding money also because of American interference the Engineering company which was supposed to give us project guidance has pulled out its leg. Now we are on our own. I can surely say, the greed of our politicians and American interference will shut down this project. May Allah help this nation and let us get rid of such leaders.
