Zia played vital role in aggravating terrorism in Pakistan. He used religion as a tool to fight the US proxy war in the Afghanistan and to legitimise his rule in Pakistan. When the war ended and US abandoned Pakistan the Jahadis turned against the state of Pakistan and they made different Jahdai outlets to pursue their agendas. With the help of Saudi Arabia, Zia also promoted the Wahabi brand of Islam and sow the seeds of Sectarianism in Pakistan. Kalshankof culture is another menace of the dictator's rule. Likewise Zia, Musharaf also made few mistakes. He allowed the drone attacks on the territory of Pakistan which infuriated the tribesmen and Lal Masjid operation also caused rage and fervour in religious groups. Aforementioned steps taken by Musharaf worked as catalysts in mounting the terrorism in Pakistan. So, it can be concluded that terrorism is somehow a legacy of dictators.

The history speaks volume about the legacy of terrorism. The Zia's period was the time when these nefarious seeds of hatred were sown. Pakistan has mostly fought the wars on behalf of others. In the Cold War between USSR and USA, Pakistan played a role of decisive tool. It not only provided Mujaheddin abut also flourished the philosophy behind it which is still nascent. With the debacle of USSR, the war ended but unfortunately the philosophy of Salafism still remained in every nook and cranny of the war zone. Indeed, the culture of Kalashnikov has been another major blow to the integrity of Pakistan.
The last dictator so far, did not tried to assuage the problem rather infuriated on its maximum by embracing the War On Terror with his open arms. Still today the responsible people do not seem to understand that the ideologies are not triumphed with guns and coercion. Even the power that started the war is on its kneels now and wants a safe exit. |

Is it necessary to expand it in the context of pak dictatorship period because you both did it in the same way?

Yes this thing needs to be identified since its origin, since its inception. Because unless you define the problem properly and thoroughly, the solution would neither be valid nor reliable.
As the Elbert Einstein says "A problem well defined is half solved". Moreover, if am to resolve any conflict I would be interested in knowing its cause- how the conflict erupted rather than making the current argument as basis for my decision and conclusion. I hope I made my point clear to you. |

Terrorism in any other country can not possibly become epitome of what and how terrorism has flourished here in Pakistan. But the situation today in Syria is also a by-product of a dictatorship.
