This is like saying that father has turned against his children. Taliban and the so-called banned terrorist outfits are the illegitimate children of the ISI and military establishment and if anyone, it is you who has to prove that ISI has disowned them. There is no such evidence that ISI has changed its policies.

Our main issue is this that every department considers itself most powerful and wants to rule out the other departments. Media claims itself the fourth pillar of the state but forgets that a single word casted by it gives vast meaning across the world. It gives coverage only to the negative activities e.g bomb blast, fights, rapes, etc. but it will never show what positive activity is going on simultaneously. At the same time they forget to focus in real issues and continue to give hype to the pity issues. For instance, drought in Thar was not reported and the so called culture show was aired on that time ( surprisingly they covered the cultural show which gave a message of entertainment in our country and no Taliban attacked that too).
Hamid Mir interviewed OBL at the time when he was at some unknown place. Was it possible for Mir to interview without the support of the boots? He was known to work for agencies. Now accusing the same institute for which he had worked is just like the both have some conflict and the past practice shows that there were similar activities in past.
I think instead of banning channels, there must be a code of conduct set for the media too. These rules can be set with mutual understanding of all institutes and consensus.

More recently, Geo is again asked to ban for the Blasphemy committed in UJP but ARY is not being demanded for any such action despite committing same Blasphemy.

Well I could not read whole discussion. I am going to answer what is asked in title of thread. Geo should be banned not only because he blamed defence institute or its higher officials but it stepped out of its orbit. Moreover all channels need a lesson. I believe in "azad media" which does not mean that you talk against any institute or any person for your own interest or do blasphemy or as in early days when Hamid mir was attacked, a shoe was thrown to Shahbaz Shareef by a journalist in an international conference. How odd is that. !!!!

Yes, it was very unfortunate event and Geo should have shown more responsibility. At the same time, we should not become totally insane while addressing this issue. I do not think that even a single sane person would believe that Geo was calling Vinna and her hubby as Hazrat Fatima RA and Hazrat Ali RA, naozobillah. It is common practice to have some Hamd-o-Sinna, Naat, Quwali, or filmi geet in the background of a function but to imply that every word of that have real meaning is insane. We should point out their carelessness and move on, instead of “cashing” it for personal or business grudges. Tomorrow, we can make this kind of mistake, therefore, we should do Istaghfar, show our concern and give benefit of doubt to Geo for being careless and ignorant. We should not make blasphemy a tool of intolerance and injustice.

I wonder to see Samma's coverage on the same kalam which was much more alarming than geo did, at this time all channels are doing their job just for point scoring, they too involve in blasphemy by broadcasting such scenes again and again...Well I think it's not the matter to submit apology on individual basis Geo administration should apologize and abstain itself from such acts..We are not here to issue certificate to anyone, it's the matter between GEO and Allah....May Almighty Allah forgive our mistakes.

Not only Geo, all channels should be banned. They have been involved in activities which harmed Pakistan in many ways. They intentionally highlight non issues and make them National level issues, just to create hype to get ratings for their channel.

Already said it is the case of rating which forced private channels to do such acts . ARY , SAMMA and GEO have aired the same Kalam in back ground. Why PEMRA chairman Abdul Jabbar who himself is a corrupt person noticed petitions against GEO. Within one span of year he had been mobilized from grade 19 to grade 21 .He is caretaker or acting chairman of PEMRA whereas his term of office has been expired .Information ministry as well as Pakistan Electronic Media Regulator Authority could not elect another chairman .He has fixed the slot of chairperson of this body which is proven it is biased itself .Its orders should not be accepted unless its transparency would be proven .

Mubashir Luqman aired a show discussed Veena Malik and Asad Khan marriage show connoting Islam in this context .I want to ask from Mubashir Luqman why we used Islam for our interest. Its not a blasphemy rather market conflicts, Amir Liaqat Ramadan show rating is the highest one among all channels thats why its name has been changed to Neelam Ghar as well .ARY is angry with the growing reputation of Amir Liaqat (I am not in favor of this person ,just telling fact) .His reputation could not be challenged by Junaid Jamshid as well as Waseem Badami in their Ramadan show .

Why Nida Yasir and Maya khan did not confess the act of blasfamy whereas Shaista Lodhi appealed to us forgive her as well to Allah as it is not a proposed act . PEMRA has issued orders against Shaista , then it should have carried such orders earlier to cease such acts. It did not took notice of ARY as well as of Maya Khan channel .

Orders to suspend Geo TV licences, seal offices.

ISLAMABAD: A committee formed by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has suspended the licences of three television channels owned by the Geo TV network.

The committee has also ordered that Geo TV offices be sealed.

However, a final decision on the revocation of the licences will be announced following the meeting on May 28, which will also be attended by government representatives.

The committee, which includes members Syed Ismail Shah, Pervez Rathore and Israr Abbasi, was tasked to review the Ministry of Defence's application filed against Geo TV network for leveling allegations against an intelligence agency of Pakistan.

Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, members of the committee announced that they have decided to suspend the licences of the three channels — Geo News, Geo Entertainment and Geo Tez — with immediate effect.

"All members (present) today unanimously decided that the licence for Geo News be cancelled. However, due to a legal formality that could not be completed, we have sent our recommendations to the Council of Complaints, advising that they respond before May 28, the date for our next meeting," said Mian Shamsur Rehman, a member of the committee.

Pemra member Israr Abbasi said that one-third members were present during the meeting today, whereas government member did not attend the meeting.

The suspension is to stay in effect until May 28, when another session of the committee will be called to decide on the final decision regarding cancellation of the licences.

"On May 28 during our next meeting, we will give a final decision on (cancelling licences of) Geo News, Geo Tez and Geo Entertainment," said Shamsur Rehman.

Pemra member Israr Abbasi said there were members representing the public and the provinces at the meeting which resulted in the suspension of Geo News, Geo Tez and Geo Entertainment.

Speaking to a private TV channel, Abbasi added that in the next meeting the legal process against Geo would be decided upon, and until then, the group’s licenses will remain suspended.

He said that there was no need to refer this decision to the law division as Pemra has been given the authority to take such a decision.

In the murky world of secret agencies, no one can prove anything. Lets call a spade, a spade. The attack on Hamid Mir was a message to all leading journalists. They cannot kill them all but they can surely silence everyone of them.

As far as the furore against Geo is concerned, I would only say that striking from the back is the norm of our society and pseudo-intellectuals and pseudo-politicians.
