Country in midst of serious crisis: Qadeer

Lahore—Father of Pakistan’s nuclear programme Dr A.Q. Khan has said that he cannot think of doing any more job in the service of the nation because of the reward he got in terms of humiliation and sufferings of his family.

Talking to media persons at his residence on Friday, after the Lahore High Court declared him a free citizen coinciding with Youm-e-Takbeer, an apparently dejected father of Pakistan’s nuclear bomb said he is however thankful the people of Pakistan who gave him all the love and affection.

He expressed his satisfaction over the verdict of the court and said he would return to the court if the verdict is not implemented.

He said the nuclear bomb was ready in 1984 and he achieved this milestone so that the rulers could feel themselves free from threats to security of the country and concentrate their attention towards development and prosperity of the country.

He said he is pained to see that the country is in a very serious crisis and people are upset over the prevailing situation. He said today the rulers have become subservient of others.

Dr Qadeer Khan complained that none of the leader of the Government or the Opposition contacted him during his difficult days. He said Interior Minister Rehman Malik made promises but did not honoured them. He said he has no complaint against any one and left the whole matter to the people of Pakistan.

The legendary scientist who suffered the humiliation during Pervez Musharraf rule said the former dictator compromised the sovereignty of the country.

He prayed that may Allah Almighty give a new leadership to the country could change the whole system.

He said his movement was restricted by the Government and the lawyers gave wrong statements before the court about his security.—INP
