KARACHI: Gerrys Dnata remains committed to Pakistan and continue to explore long-term options to resume normal cargo operations for its customers, says Syed Haris Raza, Vice President, Gerry’s dnata.
“The June 08 attacks at Karachi airport have had a huge and tragic impact on many parties, in particular at Gerry’s dnata where we have lost seven employees. Since the incident, we have offered the families of the deceased every possible care and support, including financial packages, to help them through this difficult time”.
“Our business infrastructure has also suffered tremendous damage, and we are working closely with the civil aviation authority (CAA) to ensure we can maintain operations and business standards”.
Gerry’s dnata has a 20-year history in Pakistan and remains committed to the Pakistan market.
Following the extensive damage to its facilities, Gerrys has taken immediate steps to install cold storage reefers at the airport to handle essential cool-chain cargo requirements such as pharmaceutical products.
“Similarly, throughout our operations at Karachi Airport, Gerry’s dnata has complied with all regulations to ensure safe and secure operations,” Raza said.
During the attack at Karachi airport, the management of Gerry’s dnata followed all the appropriate emergency procedures. Upon establishing that seven team members were missing, the authorities were immediately informed that the missing staff was believed to be stranded in the cargo facility. Gerry’s dnata was not in a position to facilitate rescue operations, and had to rely on the responsible authorities, says a statement.
“Right now, our team of 1,500 across Pakistan are working together to overcome the loss and trauma we experienced that day, and we appreciate the understanding and support that we have received from our customers, partners and stakeholders as we navigate through this difficult time,” Raza added.
