Ntdc vs ogdcl
Assalam u Alaikum !
NTDC BACKGROUND I am working in NTDC for 3 years as an Assistant Manager (BPS-17) regular employee. My posting is in my hometown and i am getting 100k pay with additional benefit of 450 Electricity Units. My Promotion to Deputy Manager will take another 5 Years Almost. OGDCL BACKGROUND I have recently been selected in OGDCL as an Assistant Engineer (Electronics) EGII on three years contract period , with initial consolidated pay of 65K. I can be posted anywhere in Pakistan on Oil & Gas fields with rotation system of 21-21 Days (21 Days Duty , 21 Days Rest). Promotion to Junior Engineer will take 5 years. My Opinion: Although experience of both Power and Oil & Gas is worth gaining , but in OGDCL job family sacrifice due to rota system. Your suggestions and advises are highly appreciated. |

I've worked for prestigious private Oil and Gas companies in both KPK, ISB & Sindh as a Site Engineer/Supervisor. We've had dealings with OGDCL's engineers on well-sites and processing facilities. Alongwith the tough working conditions, OGDCL employees also have to deal with nepotism, politics and corruption even on the field. All in all, you are given extra burden in OGDCL with almost no payback ON the field. If you're well connected you can reap the OFF field benefits. But what good are these benefits when YOU yourself are in khuari for all of your working hours. The charm of 21-21 days rota (private or govt) definitely takes its toll after 3 months.
The facilities provided by OGDCL to its engineers on the field leaves much to be desired. Private company engineers get Senior level food, vigo and AC containers on the field OGDCL on the other hand provides a purana GFC ceiling fan, a small brick enclosure and only gives food allowance. What good will the food allowance be when there is no nearby town or city when you're working 3 hours from civilization with 2g signals. Also the engineers are heavily dependent on the private operators on the field for lodging, food and equipment. As such they are often "begging" the firms for such stuff. However, private companies entertain all such requests out of request for a GOVT organization with major shares on O&G sites. But dont expect an Assistant Commissioner or ASP level protocol. You're mostly alone, and only get to boss around poor local laborers. Even with the private companies salary, perks and privileges, I left the job starting this year and am jobless to date. I would definitely love to be in your place with a cushy GOVT job with 100k salary AND Electricity units. I think you're being greedy and not considering that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. I would not even consider leaving this job for the khuaar tareen OGDCL or any other private rota-life. Also, the contracts will be politically, corruption/ethnicity and/or reference dependent. There is no guarantee. Forget OGDCL, cherish NTDC. Offer salat of shukrana nafil for your professional and financial condition. Take care.
