Wasn't able to find a reliable source but I think it was named by Ayub Khan .. I heard many years ago from an old man that when the place was about to be made capital, some secretaries suggested to Ayub Khan that it be named Ayubabad, which would remain as his legacy for years to come .. The old man said that he chose Islamabad instead .. Not sure if it was his own idea or he acted upon an other's suggestion ..
