Post career advice...

I am writing this to get an advice. Here is my story, this might be a long story but may be you can relate with it or have gone through same may be you can give me advice and show me a way….

When I completed BBA I was very excited about doing job. I started applying for different jobs, I got responses from companies and gave several interviews but could not find my desired job. Here my definition of desired job is pay scale. After few months I landed on a customer service job in bank. In staring I was happy but then I realized it’s not my career, this job will take me no where I started MBA and left that job. I worked in bank for about one year. I am introvert but I become very social in that year and most of the times I enjoyed that…

After leaving job I applied again for several jobs but this time it’s been more than 6 months I didn't choose a job instead I started working from home as an academic writer. I knew nothing about it but I learned all and I get paid for my efforts. But after some time I realized companies hire freelancers for peanuts. I don’t get reasonably paid for my efforts. I earned decent amount with the companies and left them and made efforts to take orders from clients directly. Luckily I got one big order but I had several payment issues as I don’t know much about platforms to receive money online, in fact I am still stuck in it. I hope so I will find a way out but I don’t like writing work either, writing a thesis and getting few thousands for it and the candidate just edit the name and then it belongs to them, this doesn't worth my efforts. I don’t create value, I just do home work for other people. I don’t want this as my career…

I spent most of my free time researching about earning online. I considered writing an e-book and selling online on Amazon and other platforms, affiliate marketing, trading etc.But all this require so much efforts and end results may not be as expected because on internet the game starts with getting traffic and I am not able to get it at least up till now and my English is also not that good that people pay for reading my book so it is impossible for me although it seems to earn money easily…

This is the details of my current work status, as a student I am above average although in my school I was always position holder and my parents felt so pound on that. I am introvert. I don’t know what I am passionate about. I don’t know my expertise and skills. I can do anything if I put enough efforts. Most of what I have learned up till now is though my own readings and very little I learned in classrooms. I don’t know what teachers are doing I read all that to pass my course and I manage to get good grades and I forget all, may b I got bad memory but I don’t remember bookish stuff. I am very realistic, we all live in materialistic work so do I but following passion and enjoying what we do and feel proud on it is also important for me...

I don’t know my career path. CSS is the option that I am considering from my last year of bachelors but I still don’t dare to start study about it. I don’t consider myself that smart to pass CSS exam. Even if I manage to pay I don’t think I will be appointed. I wanted to join armed forces but unfortunately I couldn't get opportunity yet. I feel getting government job will make me and my parents proud, maybe I will be happy but I want to keep plan B as well because it also seems impossible for me…

You might think I am very pessimist and I need motivation and inspiration. I have answer for this, this whole story is my truth, harsh reality that I accepted first and then decided to get help. I have read server books, watched several videos for motivation and inspiration but nothing worked for me. I have tried it all. I spend 70% time of a day reading. My life is all messed up, I am not a good friend to hang out with, I am good if anyone need help in studies and want to discuss interesting and valuable information. I major in finance but I don’t know much about this field, I don’t even like it…

I have no hope for my career, getting a white collar job, and working 9 to 5 is no more charming for me unless it offer decent monetary benefits, getting government job, passing CSS exam, working online all are still charming but seems impossible…

After reading all if you can advice me to consider a specific career path that if I divert all my energies and efforts towards it and have better chances of success you are more than welcome and I will be glad if I find my way though this forum….

Only you can decide about your career path but if you want to pursue CSS then all you need is a hunger for it and little bit of luck

It was a cool story. I had a similar condition I barely got to understand what teachers taught in class. And only with paying extra attention I could get half of what the teacher was saying in a class. So, I was on my own most of my academic life. Being an introvert and having a reading habit helps. Reading your story you convinced me to reply, it means you can write convincing stuff which is a good thing. CSS requires a lot of determination. Just remain motivated and rock the Casbah!

P.S. Internet writing is not a career, it's just a makeshift arrangement for pocket-money. So, treat it like that.

Well, i would say your story forced me to write a reply.
your life story is similar to mine. i am an introvert, still can't find any job after completion of my engineering in 2014, have monetary issues as i belong to a middle class family, above average student (more than 80% marks throughout my academic career, have reading habit and can study 10 to 12 hours daily.
I was also in the same dilemma few days ago as you are in now. Quite honestly, i would say i wasted 6 months to find a suitable job. in those 6 months, i relied on part time jobs, tutoring students, while hunting for a suitable job. But i am unable to find "any job" (word "suitable job" is deliberately not used here) till now.
So, i decided to prepare for CE-2016 few days ago. As, it seems impossible to find "any job" in near future and i can't afford more wastage of my time in search of job.
Therefore, my humble request to you is: (as i am gonna do the same)
Don't waste your time in sitting idle while searching for a suitable "suitable job". instead, your strategy should be "preparation of CSS + Search of suitable job".
Start your preparation for CE-2016 keeping in mind that it is your first and last attempt.
Don't rely on part time job as it will not give you a bright future.
Do apply for jobs in Govt and multinational sector in mean time during CSS preparation but your focus should be on CSS.
May ALLAH Grant you success.
Regards.

Aim for CSS with side by side searching for a good job. It can be passed with a job but performance might be affected slightly. However, if you read DAWN daily and 1-2 hrs of concentrated study (reading mainly) during job, it is very much doable.

Default Got my direction

Thank you all of you for your suggestions. i have been thinking from last several days and researched about CSS and now i made my mind to give one year of my life to CSS. It is a tough decision for me, i feel like standing on the top of cliff ready to jump with a belief that i will fly. I can imagine how difficult it is to compete with some of the best brains of our country.

I consider it as a rationale decision as it will be a win win situation no matter what the results will be. It will help me being more informed and confident person. The study would not be just for the sake of passing exam but it would be for the purpose of understanding and getting knowledge. Being able to understand and analyse the world around us covering both national and international issues is one of the interesting part of the study.

Starting preparation from scratch and having some other commitments along with it will be little difficult to manage but the hard work will pay off and it worth efforts. I personally don't know any CSP officer neither i get a chance to speak with any CSP so i decided to be one. I have read several interviews of CSP officers and went though the discussions on this forum. I realized i have all the information available on this forum to move in a right direction for that i worried a lot earlier. now all i need is to get the wheels turning and make this journey to its ends putting all my efforts and with hope for the best.

its good to hear that finally you have made up your mind to appear in CSS.
Best of luck. May Allah helps you to get through this endeavor.

Default Enough with the introversion!

Being an introvert has nothing to do with being able to find a suitable job.Or even knowing your passions.Or even speaking up and standing for what is right.
I am an introvert too.But I have been a debater all my education career.Although my insides used to turn to jelly before the speech but in the end you have to conquer your fear.I am still in the midst of being graduated. But I got a teaching job just to not burden my parents with the books I want to buy.
I am really good at it.Although you have to speak a lot in class.Sometimes in front of people on inspections(and that is scary). But I get praised.I am the strongest when it comes to talking to management although I am the youngest.
Being an introvert and being quite is strong.People give weight to you when you speak.
If you are an introvert then don't talk to people just listen. My friends all rush to me to tell their important stuff,Not because, I give great advice or talk to them a lot.But because I listen they say,"Tum sub ki bakwaas sun jo leti ho."
I am appearing for CSS exams in 2016 for the first time and I am scared of the interview already.
But the thing is I am not letting it hold me back. I think the problem here is selecting subjects that you are not passionate about.I scored 903 in matric science and chose F.A because I hated bio or chemistry. All my friends were stunned but I chose political science.
And if I don't go to CSS I will be a lawyer.Even though I am an introvert
Why?
Because You regret the things you don't do more than the ones you do.
So prepare for CSS but also find a backup plan.
And wherever you are don't accept second best ever!!!
Whatever you are be a good one ~Abraham Lincoln

Its good to know Nazish that you are doing great in your life and i wish you good luck for your career.

Introvert is just a personality trait. Well you are right being an introvert has nothing to do with finding a job but here the question was about the right job. I decided not to choose less than what i deserve. Therefore despite having graduate degree and about to complete my masters, having a good network of people i decided not to do job at least for now. It is a true fact that the day when you stop bringing business for the company you are out of game. We have to do what we are told without asking questions. it is same as like building someone's else dream.

It takes courage to decide not to work for someone else because the opportunity cost involved is very high. Let me explain by having a degree and skills we can easily get a reasonable job. here reasonable means similar to what other people of your caliber in the job market are doing and start getting a constant stream of pay. In other scenario let say starting a business requires a lot of efforts but along with it you have to sacrifice that constant pay by simply doing a 9 to 5 job. But in second scenario the end result can be very charming. I wonder why business schools don't encourage students to start their own business rather than working for someone else.

It all become very easy if we know what we are passionate about. In my case i never knew exactly what i wanted to be when i grow up. I never set an intention for my self and my efforts were not directed towards any particular goal. But still i knew one thing that i wanted to improve myself and if i look back now i see i have traveled a long journey and i am much better than i was few years back.

I set an intention for the first time in my life that i will go for CSS and will nail it. i have to choose between CFA and CSS. I analysed both from all perspectives and decided to go for CSS. I do have backup plans. I hope we will have a good learning experience...
