Banking Job v/s BPS 17 Research Officer

Currently I'm working in Bank Al Habib as OM. Having grade Assistant Manager. I recently got an offer of Research Officer (BPS 17) from University of Agriculture Faisalabad. My current salary is almost 55K including all the perks and benefits. Further I'm having 6 years of banking experience. I'm quite confused. What should I do. Further I'm working in an Islamic Branch. So Riba isn't the issue. Please give me a fair advice.

It entirely depends on your interest. If you want to leave the bank, dislike the work routine and want to switch in academics then you should join university and also pursue ms and phd afterwards. But if you have no interest in academics then it's not viable to join. Furthermore, it is not a general job in bps-17 . It is particularly research related job. So, you can't compare it simply with bps-17 .

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply. I do have interest in academics. I'm also pursuing my MS(3rd Sem). But what about the difference of salary its almost 15k. Further the experience will be wasted moreover we do have great increment policy its minimum 5,500/- in my grade. I've also completed two stages of JAIBP only one paper left. As soon I'll complete it I also get an elevation on 5,500/-. Further I'm also eligible for house loan facility. When it comes to monetary benefits I prefer bank. On the other if consider about my interest etc UAF seems to be good platform. :-S

Banking job is never a better job. It should be at your least priority.

Your experience would be an asset for you in academics. You are also about to complete ms and JAIBP. So, you will be familiar with research work and corporate practices as well.
Unfortunately, vast majority of faculty in universities have no exposure to the industry. The person having managerial experience in any industry is proven more successful because he has gone through the practical situation.
The monetary benefits would increase once you become a lecturer.

You should never join bank due to interest (Islamic Point if View) . One would be answerable to from where he had earned. Also it's very tough once you joined you wouldn't be able to switch.

You are lucky to have this golden opportunity. You should go for it. Being a banker and css aspirant I myself going through tough schedule from dawn to dusk.

Doing a government job would be beneficial for you in a number of cases like it will give you age relaxation for CSS and PMS. Plus, the boring routine of bank pinches a lot. Your life would get easier. IAT

That's good than it's upto your priority My brother was selected as MTO in NBP 6 years ago now he is area manager Also he did CFA about 1 year ago. He took one month leave and went to dubai but unfortunately due to over qualification he didn't get the job of his aptitude. He desperately want to get out of the bank job but couldn't due to tough schedule.

Nowadays It's not easy to get six digit salary and make a good career in banks. Being a research officer you 'll get a lot of time to prepare competitive exams.

Dear brother you are lucky that you got the opportunity, Banking job is a death to future, getting 55k in return for sacrificing your life, your family, your emotions, is nothing, say good bye to bank job as soon as possible, I am also a banker, with rapid growth and good career prospects, but I believe Banking is just a wastage of life, I will switch even if the salary is less by half of the current package.
