Default Explain The Difference Between National Interest and National Security?

I have read a lot of material about these two still can not understand the differences. Will anyone explain it in a very simplified manner what these two mean? And also give your opinion that which one should be preferred in the best interest of a nation?

Regards.

National Interest is preserved/safeguarded through national security.

National Interest is an End/Aim/Objective.

National Security refers to means to attain the aforementioned end/aim.

N.I is broader thing and N.S is part of obtaining or preserving N.I.
For example, winning a war is our N.I and if we deploy troops on borders and enhance our defense capabilities is called N.S.
diplomacy, economy , education, technological advancement, all are means to achieve a particular N.I.

Another thing sir,

This is the line which made me confused

"The Permeation of the jihadi culture, violence and terrorism in Pakistani society were the direct consequences of equating national security with national interests."

will you plz elaborate this?they should be kept separate?

In Zia's era when the Soviet Union attacked Afghanistan Pakistan helped U.S and Afghanistan by training Mujahedien in Pakistani camps with the collaboration of CIA and ISI. For Pakistan Afghanistan is a strategic depth (where u can deploy ur assets at the time of war) . by joining SEATO , Pakistan became the U.S ally and helped U.S in that war to secure its strategic depth. Pakistan fought a proxy war of U.S in Afghanistan. After the war ended in Afghanistan and Soviet Union segregated in states all the trained Mujaheedin turned to Pakistan and ISI tried to recruit those fighters for Kashmir War but unfortunately the political cadre of Pakistan couldn't effectively represent Kashmir issue in front of international community and Indian won the diplomacy war over Pakistan. then all these recruited Mujahdin or fighters again came back to Pakistan. They were illiterate and their bread and butter was fighting. During the Afghan war many Islamic extremist organizations like Harkut-ul-Mujhaeedin, Hizb-ur-tehreer , Jamat-ul-dawa came into being and the government and secret agencies patronized them to ideologically convince the people to fight in Aghanistan. Zia promoted the Kalashnikov culture in Pakistan. When U.S left and the economic aid halted and when there was no place in the society for those illiterate barbaric fighters, and when all the Islamic organization started pursuing their own agendas and sate stopped patronizing them then stated another era in the history of Pakistan, it was the era of bloodshed and terrorism. Whatever you are seeing today is the aftermath of that Jihad which was ideologically wrong and all those people who fighting a "Holy War" in Afghanistan started fighting the same war in Pakistan . Thier aim was to defeat the "Satan' (which was Russia during the Afghanistan war and the bad people or liberals after the Afghan war) . even after the war The ISI maintained links with the Afgahn Taliban etc to get strong hold in Afghanistan and to strengthen its roots in Afghanistan. All of this crap backfired and now Pakistan is a hub of terrorism and extremism.

Difference between N.I and N.S

National interest aims at achieving certain goals, aims objectives etc

Natiaonal security aims at eliminating threats to a nation be it of any type i.e economic, military etc

How PAK equated N.I with N.S?

1.PAK had its interst in afghanistan(N.I)

2.india was considered a threat(N.S)

we gave birth to jihadi organisations to secure our interests in afghanistan and to keep a check on the threat form india(both on eastern and western borders) and in this way equated national interst with national security by deploying a single tool(jihadiz) to address both the issues.
