Sehwag smashes his way to one-day world record with stunning 219 against the Windies

India batsman Virender Sehwag has broken the record for the highest score in a one-day international, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's 200 not out, against West Indies in Indore.
The opener passed team-mate Tendulkar's previous best, against South Africa in February last year, as he put the Windies bowling to the sword.
The 33-year-old, who was dropped on 170, passed the mark with his 23rd four of the match with India three wickets down and more than six overs to go.
Sehwag's previous ODI best was 175 against Bangladesh in Dhaka in February. The double century also took Sehwag past the 8000-run mark in ODIs.

Pakistan record 10-wkt win over England in first Test

DUBAI: Pakistan defeated number one ranked England by ten wickets within three days to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series here at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Needing just 15 runs to win, openers Mohammad Hafeez and Taufiq Umar completed the historic win in the fourth over of the innings.

Earlier, Pakistan bowlers again performed excellently to dismiss England for 160.

Best team in the world? Miserable England bowled out for just 72 en route to series defeat

England have lost the second Test and the three-match series against Pakistan after a humiliating batting collapse on day four.

The tourists were chasing 145 to win the Test after Monty Panesar took six wickets. But Andrew Strauss's men fell woefully short of the target after they were bowled out for just 72.

Thumbs up Muhammad Amir released from prison

Fast bowler Muhammad Amir has been released from prison in England, where he was serving a six-month sentence for spot-fixing.

Once considered cricket’s most promising star, 19-year-old Amir was found guilty in the scandal that shook the cricketing world in May 2010. Amir, along with then skipper of Pakistan’s test team Salman Butt and fellow fast bowler Muhammad Asif, had taken bribes from bookie Mazhar Majeed for bowling no-balls in a test match with Australia.

Undercover reporters from now defunct British publication News Of The World secretly videotaped the transaction.

In November 2011, Amir, Asif and Butt were found guilty by a London court.

Although Amir has served out his prison sentence, he is yet to finish his five-year ban period.

Unhappy Cricket: England have the last laugh as Pakistan lose T20 series

ABU DHABI: Pakistan lost the third and series deciding T2o match against England, in the three match series, by five runs on Monday.

Chasing England’s score of 129, Pakistan’s batting line up struggled from the get-go, when opener Mohammed Hafeez got out in the first over, while fellow opener Awais Zia provided some histrionics by scoring 23 runs (28 balls) which included a four and a six.

Asad Shafiq with 34 runs (32 balls) was the highest scorer for the team.

England JW Dernbach was the pick of English bowlers, taking two wickets, including Hafeez’s early wicket and captain Misbahul Haq’s wicket with the last ball of the innings.

Earlier, Kevin Pietersen made 62, even though Saeed Ajmal bowled brilliantly for Pakistan to take four English wickets, to take England’s score to 129 for the loss of six wickets.

Pakistan needed 130 runs off the 20 overs to win the match and the three match series.

England captain Stuart Broad had won the toss and elected to bat in the third and final Twenty20 international against Pakistan at Abu Dhabi Stadium here on Monday.

England kept the same team that lost the first match by eight runs but won the second by 38 runs — both in Dubai.

Pakistan also remained unchanged, resisting the temptation to play an extra spinner in Abdul Rehman.

England: Stuart Broad (capt), Jonny Bairstow, Ravi Bopara, Jos Buttler, Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn, Craig Kieswetter, Eoin Morgan, Samit Patel, Kevin Pietersen, Graeme Swann

Pakistan: Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Mohammad Hafeez, Awais Zia, Umar Akmal, Asad Shafiq, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Aizaz Cheema, Hammad Azam

Umpires: Shozab Raza (PAK) and Zameer Haider (PAK)

Tv umpire: Ahsan Raza (PAK)

Match referee: Jeff Crowe (NZL)

Pakistan defeat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in Asia Cup

DHAKA: Pakistan recorded a convincing win against Sri Lanka in their second match of the Asia Cup.

Pakistani reached the target of 189 at the loss of four wickets.

Capitan Misban-ul-Haq and Umer Akmal scored half centuries for Pakistan.

Pakistan pacers and spinners with their accurate bowling restricted defending champions Sri Lanka to 188 runs.

After captain Mahela Jayawardene won the toss and decided to bat first, Sri Lanka were bowled out in 45.4 overs.

Kumar Sangakkara (71) and Upul Tharanga (57) hit half-centuries while only openers Jayawardene (12) and Tillekaratne Dilshan (20) were the only other batsmen to get into double figures.

Paceman Aizaz Cheema was the most successful bowler with four wickets for 43 runs while off-break bowler Saeed Ajmal captured three for 27 and pacer Umar Gul two for 20.

Brilliant Bangladesh stuns India, defeats India despite Sachin's ton.

Mirpur: It was a bitter-sweet symphony at the Shere-Bangla stadium on Friday as despite a valiant century from Sachin Tendulkar - his 100th international ton - Bangladesh orchestrated a scintillating fightback to chase the target of 290 with 4 balls and 5 wickets to spare.

The Indian innings after being put in to bat had a century and two fifties (Virat Kohli's 66 and Suresh Raina's 51). The target looked daunting on a rather slow track but opener Tamim Iqbal (70) and Jahurul Islam (53) gave the hosts a perfect launchpad.

Praveen Kumar had struck early but his efforts came to naught as Iqbal and Islam anchored themselves in. The rate of scoring was not phenomenal by ODI standards but the spectators did not lose heart.

Despite the eventual loss of both batsmen to Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja, Bangladesh kept the pressure up with two more fighting knocks. Shakib-al-Hasan (49) and Nasir Hossain (54) cut open to propel their team and the match assumed tense overtones.

Irfan Pathan was whacked for two sixes in the 48th over and the match was all but over. The match was won from here on, with full points as Mushfiqur Rahim thrashed Praveen beyond the ropes in the 49th over. Hossain was dismissed by Kumar but the match was eventually sealed in 49.2 overs.

ICC backs Saeed Ajmal's bowling action

Date: 19/03/2012

NEW DELHI: The International Cricket Council on Monday backed Saeed Ajmal's controversial bowling action following reports that India had complained about the Pakistan off-spinner.

Indian television channel NDTV, quoting unnamed sources, said the team management had spoken to the ICC about Ajmal's action after Sunday's Asia Cup match between the arch-rivals in Dhaka.

ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat, however, clarified that the governing body saw no problem in the off-spinner's bowling style.

"We have tested Ajmal, checked him and monitored him in match situations, and found he bowls within the allowed degrees of tolerance," Lorgat told the Times Now news channel.

"We must be careful at what the eye sees and what the reality is," Lorgat said.

Ajmal claimed the wicket of batting superstar Sachin Tendulkar as India produced their best ever one-day chase to surpass Pakistan's commanding 329-6 with five wickets and 13 balls to spare.

It was the first match between India and Pakistan since the World Cup semi-final at Mohali in March last year.

The 34-year-old Ajmal, who has played 20 Tests and 63 one-dayers since his international debut in 2008, has found himself under the spotlight several times due to his action.

He was first reported by match officials during a one-day series against Australia in the United Arab Emirates in 2009, but was later cleared to play after remedial work was done on his action.

Doubts about his action were again raised during the recent Tests against England at the same venue, but both the ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board absolved Ajmal of any wrongdoing. (AFP)
