It's in fact a difficult decision for you to make. On one side there's a hope for age relaxation and on other side you have your last chance in your hand. Plus you've also said that you were going abroad for interviews/tests(means you don't wanna waste a year and want to start your professional career). Even I am getting worried about you, kingfalcon, that how you would end up deciding what you should go for. It feels like every aspirant have put something at stake for this exam, so have I. You know what, sometimes it feels like I am the only one among my friends, who have gone mad for something which is unpredictable to be acquired, but I keep saying to myself, that all is going to be well.

Enough light has been shed on your case bro. Its upto you now whether to appear or not. For some people its a matter of life and death, while for some its an exam taken for granted. Now decide yourself. I myself appeared in 2014 and the result was shocking for me. I was dying to appear in 2015 too but keeping in view my prep level i decided to withdraw.

Your attempt will only be counted if you appear in a paper.

Problem is, I don't trust the authorities that they will increase the age limit, you cannot trust people here. About criticising, I think we should have healthy criticism and try to improve things rather than adapt to injustice.

P.S: I have no problem of age as I am 23 right now.

Reasons you should take this attempt are:

1. If the "even-years-easy-essay' hypothesis is true, you have better chances.

2. I feel that you are at home in English so you have potential.

3. This attempt could be extremely rewarding for risk-takers with skills besides rote learning (cramming is a necessary skill but must be complemented with a few others). For instance. if you are taking new science subjects (environment, town planning etc.) there may be higher chances of scoring better (less competition = greater chances of casting a good impression). Then, the precis paper is an entirely new ballgame. Who knows, 'grouping of words' or 'translation' or 'grammar' may just do the thing for you and you ace it easily?

4. I have a general feeling (which is entirely my own) that as the complete syllabus has been revised, exam questions will be 1) from syllabus; and 2) easy.

5. For essay and precis, you can never prepare enough even if you take 10 years. So, if you are good at English, just go for it. You never know what better chances await you this year and you may not be able to take the exam if for instance, you get into international civil service (UN, ADB, WB) or a six-digit-salary MNC job. If you get what I mean...

Reasons for skipping this attempt:

1. One can get rid of discombobulation surrounding the general science paper, precis paper and new subjects.

2. 'Scoring trend', if there is such a thing in existence, will become clearer.

3. Optionals can be better prepared.

etc... etc...

My perception:

Take this attempt and then forget it. Its slightly wasteful to give three precious and complete years of life to something that is highly luck-dependent. Do the attempt and then go out and conquer the world. Hopefully in October 2016, you will be pleasantly surprised when you see your name on the list.

Good luck to all those taking the risk this time.
Thanks so much for the detailed reply Sana, much appreciated.. Yes, I have taken Town Planning, Environmental Science, Geography (2015 as well), International Law and IR. I think Compulsory portion is doable without much preparation as it is highly relying on current affairs and knowledge/analysis, Islamiat might be an exception and I failed it in CE 2015. However, in optionals, I have only around 20% preparation, I can manage IR as I have an interest in it since a long time and I hope some questions will be general in nature but I don't know if I can manage International Law. Town Planning, Geography and Environmental Science might passable.
Yes, wasting time has given me a lot of mental torture and harmed my career, it's good that I did an internship and some online courses so that kind of saved me. Getting jobs in Pakistan is hell hard (if there are any) and I abroad is not easy either if you don't have much work experience. But yes, since time is running out for me, I think I better give it a try. I have a feeling that I failed with good preparation but I just might make it with minimal preparation haha...

So what's the best option? Know the basics and know how to use the basics to write an impressive answer.

If your preparation is resting at a precarious 20 percent, then there is no point in taking the exam. But if it's 60+, you have hope.
I agree with this.. Nobody is 100% prepared for CSS, not even the toppers. One has to read and understand as much relevant stuff as possible and then give a nicely articulated answer in the exam.

Yes bro.. Unfortunately I was not given the visit visa even though the company called me twice, very upset about it but I am thinking of going abroad for an MSc now, that should boost my profile and help me get a job there. One part of my mind tells me that I am wasting time here with these exams etc and another one is telling me to give the exam anyway now that you have lost so much for it. I think Sana Rasool is right, that I should give the exam and start my career because once I start it, it will be hard to prepare for the exam next year. Now another part of my mind is telling me that I prepared a lot last year and gave good papers but still failed with marks that are a disgrace to my academic/professional profile so how will I pass this time with minimal preparation. Oh boy, this CSS makes people mad.

I would suggest you to go for it.

- If you skip it, you will fall back to the approval of 30-year age limit.
Let's take If it doesn't get approved, you will be surrounded by unpleasant situation of bizarre. More or less, you will be regretting that 'K yaar attempt de dena chaye thaa... Itni bi buri preparation nhi thi (given the irregular dynamics of CSS)'.

- If it gets approved, you will have to bear 1 - 2 years with uncertainty that might drag you more in the feelings of ruined.

Thus, Now or never, do or die. CSS will remain unpredictable and abstruse, no matter how much a candidate prepare for it.

Good luck for tomorrow.

So far,the most encouraging post for CE 2016 Aspirants. Hope this year will prove to be the luckiest for those appearing tomorrow. Good luck for the battle.
