AOA
Although I am not a CSP but beloning to a family which comprise of 50 % CSPs and 30 % Army Officers, I would try to elaborate on whatever experience I have straddled so far, Buddy you have put all of us in a Fix casting the fact that Army pertains to Internal helm of affairs and Foreign service External, both Institutions, its management, Structure, planing policy formulation and Implementation holds no similarity whatsoever, Where Army is Defence from Gun to Boot to a Tank Foreign Service is Communication, Pen and Paper To cut it short Army is War Foreign service is Peace (not to mention atleast it tries), so by now you must have realized both are entirely different in nature, range and Prospect I would start with Army; Army is a very honourable Profession it grooms you very well but at the sametime its a very demanding Job squeezing, pushing and putting you very hard Army Pay as compare to civil, Corporate and commercial sector is infinitesimal by the end of month you wonder whats coming up next ? Its a decent way of living but very professional however frequent transfers are annoying some times at the same time Interesting provided with new cities and culture you witness. Honestly Army In my Opinion (you can differ) is for those who are from a very humble background (4th Class Officers hawaldars son) or for those very well Off ( Landlords or very Rich) middle class people find it hard to adjust. Besides not to forget Army provides alot of facilities Accomodation, Transportation (Airline and Railways fares Concession) and janiotrial staff Foreign Services and DMG is the heart of civil Services (again you can differ) Foreign Services is all about charm & allure exposure to world at its best your very first foreign posting will start with the pay of 158000 PK RS) You will wear mark Spencer suits Gucchi Boots drive in a Mercedes S series with a Green Flag holding red passport on which you dont need Visa of more than 51 Countries wherever you go Internationally people will welcome you with broad smile, welcomed through diplomatic channel called Excellency by President and high Profile dignitaries of the country you posted in less I would still call it petty incentives compare to the Exposure, Charisma and Influence you develop throughout your career provided with Psuedo Intellectual ability to change the War into peace by Just a single meeting. On foreign posting at the Outset you are Posted as 3rd Secretary thus Army is limited in capacity, whilst Foreign Services is egression productive in outreach Meanwhile let me also state some demerits of Foreign service starting in foreign service is a bit tough you will posted in HQ go for some foreign langauge course and will get posting when the lady luck or a contact favours you otherwise its a bit hard to capitalize on posting Accomodation in FSP is a serious Issue till 18th Grade you have to stay in FSP Officers hostel and wont get any Vehicle After your 1st foreign Posting you will again be sent back to Pakistan FSP HQ as Deputy Director and wait for next lucky Order. I hope I have provided you with enough Info to asses everything according to your Intellect If you have any query kindly do put it forward I will try my level best to answer it Thanks Regards |

@Yes2010
Hope you are doing well.
Yes2010, you seem to have some info (if not all) on the lifes of CSP, esp on foreign services as you stated that your uncle is a serving foreign services official. Kindly take some time out to comment on the following thread intiated by me. Any info on these will be extremely helpful as I know nobody from Civil Services - so you can say, I lack even the basic knowledge regarding the lifes and work schedule of CSPs and government officials. Looking forward to your comments. The Link is, http://www.cssforum.com.pk/general/d...ife-other.html

CSS vs Army
Sir
In fact one should not leave Army and join CSP post. Level of respect in Army is matchless and CSPs are far behind. Facilities of army officers are equal which ever post one may get; accommodation, servants, health est. But with Khuda postings, CSPs even quarrel for Peons. Read the book by Ex IGP Punjab Sardar Muhammad Chaudry. It reflects the fact that police officers of rank of DIGs could be pressurized/ humiliated by Brigadiers and even Colonels, especially when interaction on security issues comes between them! Also at the end armed forces officers get house/ plot at DHA or SD Houses, and it is not possible for DIGs to get accommodation on retirement thru fair means. Therefore Army Major is superior to CSS 1st position holder in PSP/ DMG group. |

Just to put things in context, in that book Sardar Sahib was referring to the era of Gen. Zia's Martial Law. And in Martial laws, Brigade commanders can certainly pressurize the officers of there area.

After reading your comment i will suggest you to ask your brother to go for Army.See Our Pakistan Army is the best institution in the country.Army is the MIT,Oxford,Stanford,Caltech,UCLA.Indeed it is far better than any institution of US,China or Germany. Graduates of Pakistan Army,Navy and Airforce are far better than that of all the world. An FSP official is simply a clerk.We know that Army crafts all of our policies and sets the security agenda.If one becomes a Captain in Army one's opinion is far more sacred than the opinion of Foreign Secretary. The Bullet is mightier than the Pen. You may also be posted on foreign mission if you are in Army.We have Army generals posted as Ambassadors in US,China,Germany,etc. Thank you. |
