Majority of the css aspirants face problems when it comes to subjects selection, they often seek the advice of seniors and CSPs. But when optional subjects are selected keeping in view the scoring trends,seniors' advice and past papers, it often proved fatal for the candidates. Reason behind the failure of 80% candidates in written portion of exam is the subject selection.
Optional subjects should be selected keeping in view one's academic background, aptitude towards some particular subjects, candidate's interest and availability of helping material.

If scoring and non scoring is so obsured a thing then what is the wrong with those who opt subjects like English literature, Indo pak history, constitutional Law and IR. They mostly score average marks despite aving specilization in these subjects. On the contrary are those who opt evergreen subjects like psychology and regional languages turns out to be very able, well learned people despite having no background in these subjects, atleast that is what their scores in these subjects show.
Moreover if you look at the DMCs of PMS 2011 (Punjab) result then you will see a definite pattern and relationship in subject selection and final outcome in term of allocation. Subjects like arabic, public administration and geography proved decisive.


Furthermore, you claimed that 80% candidates fail in written exam meaning 20% qualify. I am not sure such huge per centage has thus far passed css written exam ever. Usually, it is between 8 to 10 %. You claimed that those who opt trending or scoring subjects get thrashing by psychologists and interview panel because their subject selection is not compatible with job. Again, I beg to completely disagree with you in light of my humble knowledge and experience. To me, scoring trends i.e, scoring and non scoring phenomenon, is an unfortunate reality in competitive exams and one has to give a due consideration to it besides interest and background factor.
