Diary of a CSS Aspirant
Hello everybody,
Due to some events in my personal life I find myself unemployed and have decided to use this opportunity to sit in the CSS exam. I realize that there are only 4 months remaining but where there's will, there is a way. The purpose of this thread is not to act as an expert on CSS prep or give tips. I only intend to share whatever methods I use for my preparation in the hope that someone else can benefit from my experience. Right now I am busy creating a timetable so I know how much I have to study per week. I plan to finish the whole syllabus till the end of December. It is indeed a lot to do in such a short time frame but if I find it hard, I will have to start leaving out topics and study smarter. My Background: I am an engineer by profession. My Optionals: IR Applied Math Pure Math US History Criminology Books: As people always ask which books one is using, I must admit I don't have much clue which books I should use. I have bought a few and will post here if I find them useful. |

So far this week I have covered the 'Introduction' part of the IR syllabus. I bought Ikram Rabbani's book but I am not so happy with it. First, the book contains a lot of grammatical mistakes which is surprising for someone who has been writing books for so long. Second, the author has taken complete passages from J. Goldstein's book and pasted them in his. I am using Goldstein's ebook and I feel I should continue studying from the eBook.
I have also started grammar topics using the eBook 'Grammar and Vocabulary for Cambridge Advanced and Proficiency' by Richard Side and Guy Wellman. Both the above mentioned eBooks are available at: https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...kh4M2x3WnVJNWs |

Good luck!
It can definitely get stressful at times when you realize how much there is to cover in just 4 months. But the key is making schedule (as you are) sticking to it. I have also taken up IR as one of my optionals. I bought the Ikram Rabbani book as well but ditched it after a few days because for the reasons you mentioned. I am also using Goldstein/Pevehouse and finding it easy and to the point. To deepen my understanding of the theories and concepts, I also watch YouTube videos. All the best to you (and all of us)! It was a sudden decision for me too. I am confident that I can manage it in time. However, a major factor in that is that I consider my English to be good enough(grammatically). If you are lacking in that department, then it is a tough task.
