Thanks Scarface for the appreciation. My effort here is to present updated developments about each occupational group especially those occupational groups which are under-rated by people despite their excellent potential & prospects. At the same time I do not want to misguide candidates about any occupational group which is on the decline and which has no future charm. It is very important that people should join those occupational groups for which they feel that they have the aptitude. For example, a person should only join Police, IRS or DMG is they can withstand extreme pressure from politicians, superiors, colleagues, vested interests etc. If they can manage this well, then they can serve public service properly. Also, one should join Police Service only if one has the passion for law enforcement and enjoy living an adventurous life. I know many of my friends who joined Police Service with huge dreams but once they faced realities in the field where every day they became witness to gory incidents, they started to look for deputations to various Ministries, programmes or even secretariat. For such people a much better option is opting for DMG or IRS. Similarly, those who enjoy finance, accounting or law should go for IRS or PAAS. Those who are interested in international commerce & trade, should opt for PCS or Commerce & Trade and those with passion for International Relations and diplomacy should opt for PFS. If they chose occupational groups according to what their heart really desires they can do a much better job.

It is difficult to get cars in Lahore and Karachi where a large number of officers prefer to get posted. There are housing colonies in all major stations and except for Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Rawalpindi, family-level accommodation is easily available. One should prefer posting at a smaller station initially where there is more liberty to exercise powers and have more learning. However, Large Taxpayers Units at Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad provide the best opportunities for an officer to get fully trained in corporate side. After stp, officers get up to Rs. 35,000 as salary and if they are allowed a vehicle they receive fuel worth Rs.6000 per month. On good performance, officers can get up to 12 basic salaries extra as bonus. Training opportunities are offered very liberally and although MBA from IBA has been discontinued due to opposition from newer batches, FBR provides full funding for undertaking MBA from IBA, LUMS or NUST if an officer can get admission to any of these institutions. Foreign training opportunities are also in abundance and after 5 years of service one is eligible to apply for foreign training through FBR's HRM Wing. As Assistant Commissioner, an officer of IRS presides over quasi-judicial proceedings and enjoys the status of a Civil Judge for ordering arrest, penalties and imposition of fines on delinquent taxpayers. An IRS officer in BS-17 is supported by at least one auditor in BS-14 and one inspector in BS-14, besides various clerical and Class-IV staff. Inspectors during enforcement proceedings are required to wear uniform and are supported by bailiffs. On the orders of an officer of the rank of at least an Assistant Commissioner, they can arrest anyone who is found interfering with the official proceedings.
IRS seems a very promising and interesting service !!

Any other thing, sir feel free to share with us.

There are two hostels in Dot, International hostel and old hostel. Facilities are same in both hostels. You will enjoy free air conditioner round the clock in scorching summers of lahore. Both the hostels have lovely lush green lawns. There is a wonderful mess in academy and u know messing is free for only two groups Dmg and IRS, others pay messing charges. Overall hostel and accommodation is very good.
Well, studying law is not child's play, you have to pay attention to what teacher(A.D) has to say or you will invariably miss the point and it will become hard for you to grasp the concept afterwrds. I will like to quote commissioner, who also teaches us, he says that we do the studying, rest do picnicking in name of stp.
Yes, A.D's here are all interactive and its a very open environment where you can discuss and share your views on subject matter.
well, as long as tours are concerned, there are two country study tours(cst), one to karachi and other to Islamabad. Social life is very good, gym is there, sports complex is under construction-its a huge project, it shall have indoor swimming pool, lawn tennis, squash and state of art gym, tv lounge is there where you will get good multimedia system to enjoy and chill.

Thankyou Scarface, i have been allocated to IRS, i was informed today.If you could answer the following questions please;
1)Promotion prospects in IRS.
2)A general overview of the powers in the service, i mean how much of Danda is there :P
3)Chances of Foreign tours?
4)And finally, do you get Sarkari ghar and Gaadi and other such facilities in IRS, and if so, after how many years in service should one expect these.

Thankyou Scarface in anticipation, i consulted all other threads on the Service but they all are massive argumentative matches between forummers with very little info, so if you could answer these, i would be grateful
