Today, Prime Minister of Pakistan announced the name District Managment Group(DMG) to be Pakistan Administrative Service at CSP & DMG Officers Association's meeting in Islamabad. What do you say about this??

DMG was misnomer basically, because the name shows that the officers should be involved in management of districts only, while in reality, its All Pakistan Service with presence almost in every Govt. Department at key slots. Thats why it was felt for long to rename it and yesterday finally PM Gilani formally announced it at CSP & DMG association dinner in Islamabad.
And one more thing, this renaming has been welcomed by all the officers of DMG cadre which shows that the "PAS" has been involved in administration and management of the whole country, so your wish to keep "Pakistan Administrative Service" at even the last preference would not count at all.

It's a good move
DMG, Police, Customs, IRS etc, these all are services provided to the nation or state by recruiting civil servants. Even in our neighbour country its IAS (Indian Administrative Service). So in my opinion it sounds good even though it is just a name change. |

We already have Police "Service" of Pakistan, Foreign "Service" of Pakistan, Pakistan Customs "Service", Inland Revenue "Service" etc. Why DMG was not considered a Service at first place? I agree to Dr Farhan that it was a misnomer.

I think the term DMG was coined in 1973, prior to which it was called Pakistan Administrative Service. So it seems to me more like a name restoration than name change.
