Although job timings depend upon the assignment and posting, however, in general while comparing this cadre with the rest of the cadres, PSP demands 24/7 availability. Normally, you will not get time to invest in your families on holidays etc. For example: You will be required to perform security duties on Eids and other gazetted holidays.

As far as your second part of the question is concerned, that again depends upon your role. As an ASP you will be required to investigate criminal cases (at times) and you will have to assume administrative roles as well. Again this depends on the current posting

Aoa... The ASP is appointed by the Federal Govt while the DSP is appointed by the Provincial Govt. but both have same powers (BS-17) ... Similarly Kindly guide is there any difference b/w DIG or CPO or RPO (BS-20) & AIG/DPO/SSP (BS-19) ????

The apparent difference between DSP and ASP is that the former is quite an old guy whereas the latter is a boy Secondly, ASP has PSP on his shoulders where the ranker i.e DSP or SP (in some cases) has POLICE written on his shoulders beside ranks. Both have equal power but an ASP has definitely more respect and approach among senior PSP officers. DSP has respect too due to his long service in police.

Now coming to second part of your question. ASP, SP, SSP, DIG etc are ranks that are designated by the metal on your shoulders. Whereas, CPO, RPO, DPO and SDPO are posts. Every DPO is an SP or SSP but every SP or SSP is not DPO. Hope I cleared your query?

as u said every SP OR SSP is not DPO ... why these posts i.e CPO, RPO, DPO and SDPO are linked to specific SP or SSP ??????? on the basis of ability or superiority to handle tasks & duties ????

No, to be specific, it doesn't depend totally upon one's attitude till the post of DPO. Everyone gets a chance to serve in the field especially in the early years of his/her service. Right now, Pakistan has around 145 districts including ICT and major cities like Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar etc. PSP doesn't have a plenty of officers so everyone gets a chance to serve as a District Police Officer throughout his career at least once. Government would not put you on desk for ever. But as one gets to higher rank i.e DIG, then the real competition starts. Higher authorities definitely see your profile and reputation for the post of RPO (to command a full division). For IGP, the competition and the list goes thinner and very few officers compete for that post. And yes, your reputation and "Hello Hi" with senior authorities also plays a vital role for you in getting better posts. Actually, it happens in every group i.e PAS, FSP etc. Its Pakistan after all.
