Help is needed in current affairs
I have been facing some problems in preparing current affairs topics. Problems are ranging from making adequate notes, to the selection of important topics. I need useful recommendations from the seniors and other members of this forum regarding the preparation of current affairs. Please, guide me in how to evaluate and manage such things as which topics are necessary, what areas in newspaper should be focused on, how much time be given to newspaper reading in addition to have look on other topics, how to make effective notes, and so forth. I will be grateful to sincere endeavours to help me out for tackling the task.
Regards.

first of all read daily the Dawn and collect the articles in the form of cuttings
paste these cuttings on some register topic wise, for example all education related topics should be pasted together
i think one should not make notes of CA because it is very lengthy process, only highlight the important points in the cuttings
read editorial pages , for example in the Dawn page 6 and 7 are editorial

Dont take the tension of making notes.First try to develop your interest in Current Affairs.Besides Dawn, read Urdu Newspaper to understand the things in a short time. For CSS point of view, some topics are very important like Pakistan's relations with other countries and its geo-Political importance.etc.Then cover the international relations like US relations with India,China etc, issues like Kashmir,Palestine,Syria,etc..then domestic issues like Energy crisis, violence in Pakistani society,Economic crunch etc...you should give 2 to 3 hours a day to newspapers and current affairs'programme.(make notes in December after extensive reading of all important issues)

Is it necessary to read such domestic issues as political squabbles, constitutional clashes, deterioration of law and order in Karachi, missing persons in Balochistan, sectarian violence and killings of Hazaraz, issues pertaining to corruption such as memo scandal or NRO, and likewise. The evaluation of topic in accordance to their importance is the major problem where I often stuck in. It is an upright fact that a css aspirant can not read these all issues which appear in paper daily in different headings. Moreover, if we are reading newspaper without adopting systematic way or justifying that whether we are going according to the requirements of exam, I think, we will be in imbroglio to deal with current affairs.

salam!!
here are some points that may help you.
1. if you dont have prior knowledge of this subject or you never have been interested in CA then only newspaper reading is not suffice.
2.start reading dawn, try to make understanding of issues as well as buy some good notes from any academy.these notes are not for your preperation.they are just for reading and about gaining some know-how of issues.moreover, you would be able to understand how to lace your answer with good quotes & headings.
3.it is important to note past papers' pattern and changes in questions about same topic over time.write down questions related to one topic/theme under one heading so that you may know possible dimensions of a question.this would also help you in making your own notes.
4.what you read in newspaper is not all about what you need.filter out your required stuff.by reading notes/past papers you will be able to sort out this on your own after some time.
5.make a separate register for CA,try to note down what you read daily in newspaper.again what-you-need rule is applied here.like important facts/figures and analyses.for starters, you can copy it.however,it is better to note down by yourself in your own words,it will reduce/prevent hesitency in writing, augment hand-writing speed, part of it/all would be retaind in your memory.
6.after 2,3 months(may vary) you will be able to jot down your knowledge according to the question asked.
7.you may read advanced contemporary affairs and other helpful stuff.make important notes in detail before december.
8.make your notes in december (short one).keep it in your mind that they must be concise with all important date/facts/quotes.short notes are easy to revise during exams. dont forget to take tests or present your work before some capable person like a csp or your teacher or whoever you deem fit ,for checking/correction.
regards!

in my view you must be aware of all these "happenings"(unfortunte though) because if they are not asked/used directly they can be used to raise an argument or quote an example. for example political squabbling destroys prospects for meaningful dissension or consensus that may be useful for people otherwise.similarly hazara/secatarian killings show the fault lines of our polity & can be quoted/debated in a question according to its mold.
In shortCA paper asks your analyses about issues not personalities.sagas revolving around personalities are hardly asked.personalities related questions are pak-affairs stuff.
for newspaper reading, say dawn, concentrate on editorials, articles written by eminent writers & sometimes letters by public are your daily newspaper reading staple.page 1 & international news according to relevance like arab's spring or palestine issue etc....more recently syria & egypt is in focus.
i hope my reply serves the purpose to some extent!!!
regards
