Expansion:

Western lifestyle is a set of norms and values which is followed by people in west. It is a liberal, non-traditional and popular culture which is in complete conflict with our eastern Islamic culture. Due to increasing globalization, economies of many countries are greatly weaved together and are extremely dependent on western economies due to their great economic might. With this increasing trade, cultural exchange and modernization is rampant. As western countries are dominating in economics sphere, we tend to adopt their cultures too. Because it is evident in history that countries which are powerful in economic terms its culture is influenced on developing countries. This increasing infusion of western cultures is being adopting without any hindrance or objection by the masses. Pre-marital sex, western immodest dresses, alcoholism, drug culture and vulgarity are a few of the many evils of western culture which have infiltrated our society completely at various levels. This has led to numerous problems for our culture, our society and for nation as a whole. The western trend has presently grown deep roots in our society; it is difficult or nearly impossible to eradicate values completely from our culture in short term. What can be done is to create awareness and affection for our own culture and values. We should market our own culture and beliefs to people. Our Islamic values and eastern traditions should be encouraged at school level with the collaboration of parents. There is a lot that can be done to promote our culture and to curb the growing strength of westernization but the fact is, in reality, no matter how hard we try, it will not produce desired results until and unless we do not work on economic influence. As long as we are developing country and westerners are developed and rich, we will always tend to be influenced by their culture, it’s in human nature.

Hellen keller, the internationally known writer, was facing a number of physical handicaps, but she did not allow them to hinder her way to success. John Nash, another Nobel prize winner was suffering from a severe psychological disorder. Marx weber, a prestigious social researcher, faced very dangerous paralysis strokes but did not give up. Similarly, Abraham Lincoln, the famous president of America, belonged to a very poor family. He got that position by making the good of his hard times. There are hundreds of such examples that confirm the sweetness of adversities. In fact, adversity is a blessing in disguise. It serves as a teacher and trainer. Man gets the harsh lessons that prepare him for the time to come. Thus, obstacles and hardships do not come to hinder the way of progress but to train up a person to swim through the opposite waves. He who makes the best use of his difficult times can never fail to achieve his objectives.

This world inhabits many people with different characteristics and also they have different perspectives to look into the realities of this world. ALLAH has bestowed us with so many gifts among them our tongue is the most beneficial through which we can talk whatever our heart and mind says to us. According to the teachings of Islam, the tongue is the piece of meat whose righteousness gives us the breeze of heavens and its bad words can throw us in the fire of hell.

The people with real intellects don’t talk much on the topic, on which they have no command or very little knowledge to argue upon. But the foolish people, who have no control on their tongues, talk and argue on every topic which opens up in front of them. Actually, these are the people who have nothing inside them but make so much noise to attract and impress the world towards them.

Hazrat Umer (R.A) said for these types of people that, don’t laugh so much because so much laughing makes your heart dead. A person whose heart is filled with the name of ALLAH and with knowledge given to him by ALLAH, don’t try to expose him in front of the people rather he works for the prosperity and growth of humankind in silence and try to give their knowledge and want to talk on those subjects which can serve some purpose for the glory of mankind.

An empty vessel makes much noise.

A pitcher which is empty makes loud noise and a pitcher which is full of water makes little noise. One can know by this example that a person who possesses little knowledge like empty pitcher; makes loud noise and boasts about bushes. Whereas, the person who has deep knowledge remains silent and talks little. The deeper the ocean the more silent it will be.

God likes those people who are gold but call themselves copper coins. Having everything, they spend their lives like a common man. All messengers, prophets, sufis, dervishes and pious people had great knowledge but they never became like empty vessels. They spent their lives with simplicity and valued brevity.

It is truely said that little knowledge is dangerous. Those people who have little knowledge, they try to be philosophers and scholars. They remain empty inside like drums. When they are hit, they make cracking sound. They do not look before they leap and they get poor respect in their surroundings. A person who has deep knowledge speaks little and is respected by everyone. Indeed, brevity is the soul of wit.

All the philosophers and scholars talked rarely about their deep knowledge. As is a Zen proverb, "Those who know do not tell and those who tell do not know." A person must not be like empty vessel. He should have deep and profound knowledge because those who speak much about the subject having little knowledge are not liked in our surroundings.
