MAN IS BORN FREE BUT EVERY WHERE HE IS IN SHACKLES
It is taken from Rousseau’s quotes which hold a reality of life in itself. Child is born free in this world. But when he comes here in this mortal world, he is chained in different fetters.
When a child is born, he wishes to have the moon in his hands, but the reality is that he cannot have it this way. When he grows up, he realizes that his all dreams could not be met fully. He is not willing to go to school but his freedom is ignored, and is sent to school. It places a restriction on him. Likewise, a grown up man desires to have his every dreams fulfilled but he cannot do so. Life turns him into a tragedian by placing restriction on him, every time he wishes to cross that which is limited and being restricted. he realizes that that he has been living a fool’s paradise, and he cannot satisfy his all dreams because of the scarcity of resources. He, being made compelled to choose between two competing ends, receives a huge blow to his freedom. A beggar may want to live in a bungalow and have a nice car, but paucity of resources restricts him from doing so. Similarly, an industrialist might want to expand his business horizons by establishing more factories, but his economic limits restrict his wish to merely a dream. Again, in the third world countries, people are entrapped by poverty, hunger and unemployment cannot fulfill their dreams because of limited resources at their disposal. Pakistan, being a third world country is in the shackles of poverty. It wishes to dent this scar by accepting foreign aid and to supplement resources to fulfill its objectives. In its bid for self reliance, it is caught in foreign slavery. Even if they wish to do so, they are further hurled down to slavery.
According to Rousseau, life in society is false and unreal. It places restrictions by reducing human freedom. Living life with nature is the only available option, according to Rousseau. Life in society is bound to obey laws which are necessary for its smooth functioning. If we want traffic to run smoothly, we make certain traffic rules to be followed. Freedom does not mean driving a vehicle like a rocket in the air; otherwise it will further deteriorate the situation and produce anarchy. Man is free by nature, but their freedom is constricted by the dictators they choose to be ruled over by. A dictator further restricts human freedom and even media, which is meant to disseminate news and information is curbed by him. They do not like what poses a threat to their rule. Freedom of expression is strangled at the altar of dictatorship. On the other hand democracy, even if it is lame and maimed serves people in a better way than a dictatorial regime does.
