Post Objection on Conditional sentences!

Asslamulaikum,

I hope all are fine.

Conditional sentences: In conditional sentences we have two parts, on left side we have "If clause" and on the right side "Main clause" or "result clause". In if clause we say a condition and in the main or result clause we predict about the result of the said condition.

Ex: If he plays well, he will win his match.

Kinds of conditionals: Great Grammarians say that there are three types of conditionals, but in many books you people may find that there are 5 kinds of conditionals.

1) Type 1/ Will conditional.
2) Type 2/ Would conditional.
3) Type 3/ Would have conditional.

( The remaining two mentioned only in few books are " Mixed conditional and Zero conditional).

1) will conditional or Type 1: In this type of conditionals, in if clause a condition is said and in the main clause result is predicted.

In if clause we use present indefinite and in main clause we use Future indefinite Tense.

Ex: If he works hard, he will pass the exam.

( In my point of view, present indefinite is not used rather, present form of verb is used).

Ex: If he is rich, he will help the poor.

( In the above sentence present indefinite is notused but present form of verb is used).

Another objection is that, "will" is used for 100% surety, how can we say that in result clause we use future indefinite? If we predict the result of something we can't use will rather , Modal Auxillary verbs must be used.

Ex: If he participates in debate contest , he will win it.

Here I can't assure that he will win, but rather i must say that , He may win..

To be continued........

Regards.

Type 1 has the following usages:

1) For Action: It can be used for an action of a

person.

Ex: If he works hard, He will pass his exam.

If he kills his friend, He will be taken to jail.

2) For status: Will conditional shows the status

of a man.

Ex: If he is a doctor, He will treat you.

If she is a teacher, she will teach you.

3) For property: It can also show the possession

of something.

ex: If I have a pen, I will give it to you.

If he is rich, He will help you.

We can bring changes in type 1, in a way that

we bring the main clause first then if clause. At

that time comma is removed.

Ex: He will go to karachi if he buys the ticket.

Type II / Would conditional: In such conditionals

in If clause we use past Indefinite Tense, and in

Result clause we use would and After would first

form of the verb is used.

Ex: If he worked hard, he would pass the exam.

One thing has to be remembered that we say

something against the past facts.

It has also 3 usages.

For status:

If he were a doctor, he would treat you.

For property:

If he had car, he would give it to you.

For Action:

If he worked hard, he would pass the exam.

To be continued,,,,,,,
