I would prefer English because it allows me to prepare in a better way. It might sound little awkward, but it is true that Jargon of Islamiat urdu is really hard to be gulped down. Those who are preparing in Urdu, know it better that the terminology is at times too incomprehensible.

Over the past few years, Islamiate paper is some kind of current affairs paper, therefore, I would prefer to attempt it in English.

I read a few books for it firstly
1.The spirit of islam(not complete)
2.Understanding Islam(a few useful topics)
3.KIPS islamiat notes
4.Islami Nazriya e hayat(I read it in urdu but expressed my ideas in english.but I have heard its available in english as well.it is by far the best book)
5.VU notes

Plus this,I frequently heard lectures of Dr.Israr Ahmed n Dr Zakir Naik...
Plus 'Friday column' in dawn..
most importantly, keep ur mind open n learn to correlate things n reason logically..

By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.
It varies from person to person...if you can manage translation of 'ayyats' in urdu then you should go for Islamyat in urdu, where as if u have been taking Islamayat paper in english in your previous academic years then you should attempt it in english. both versions have equal scoring opportunity.....
