Dear, My subjects were History of India and Pakistan, Geography and Psychology. I am not able to ascertain as to why my interview went so. Some of my seniors have said that since I was not from there area of expertise or interest, my interview remained different from that of other Lawyers, BBAs etc. Now I am worried that whether it would might have gone against me or something else. However I am still waiting from CSS forum to give me a detailed assessment on my interview.

the interview sequence is like:
chairman:
easy start, things about personal data, general question
madam batool:
polite, easy, current affairs questions
wajid rana:
on average, 2 to three long statements: either agree or disagree and then asks for explanation.
2 or 3 questions from one or two optionals
2 questions not from your field, entirely different subject/field... usually everyone is dropping these.
mr. lehri:
asking questions related to several national issues.

panel and atmosphere is easy. everyone is dropping 2 to 3 questions on average. and there is essentially one question that is nowhere related to you so it is going so.

Sorry Silza I have to disagree here. There is nothing as easy start. Questions like why civil service, why this group or why you- these are the most important questions in the interview. They make or break it. If you can not satisfy the chairman and the panel that they should induct you in particular group you stand no where for the rest of the interview. And they give you a very free hand in this question, you can say anything like mujhe bachpan se shoq tha :P main mulk ke hidmat krna chahta hon or i have the required skill set or anything else, might be a number of them. that's your chance to sell yourself to the panel.

Believe me when he asks 'why do you want to be in this group ?' And you give a whole comprehensive answer then the looks he gives you and I have to say that in Urdu- 'ap ko 2 kori ka ker deti hain'
The chairman part was where I struggled in my interview. See Wajid Rana asking questions how to tackle water shortage or stuff- that's easy to answer. But chairman asking stuff like 'So this is a meeting of high command of police, they want to know what to do to reform the department and they are asking you. They will right away implement that. So now would be your time. Shoot! ' Then you start your suggestions and he gives you expressions like ' Seriously??? Are you kidding me here'
And he doesn't even ask you follow up questions, so that you get to explain yourself, he just give you judgmental looks.

No one interrupts then and you just wish someone does
I think being interrupted while explaining isn't that difficult because you just switch to the next thing they ask.

Default My Interview Experience

Dear All
I have finally overcame the laziness which has always kept me from having to write about my interview although it’s been ages since I was interviewed i.e. December 2014, Islamabad phase 1. Obviously I don’t remember all of it but I have tried my best to recall and write most of it here. Before I start, keep in your mind that my Msc was in Defence and Strategic studies and so were the questions.
The duration was 35 to 38 minutes; obviously longer than the average this year.

The Chairman sb opened the interview by asking as to why did I chose Islamabad for the interview because Multan was my hometown and I could have appeared in the latter. After that he bombarded me with question after a question as I struggled from one answer to another. Lol.
• What are MIRVs. Answered
• What is ABM system and what is the latest development in missile technology? Answered
• What is the theory of escalation and who coined it? Answered only the first part
• What were START 1 and START 2 between USA and USSR?
• Should Pakistan sign NPT?
• Do you see an option of limited war with India over Kashmir?
• What rationality has to do with theory of deterrence? Answered. Followed by a series of follow-up questions which I don’t want to remember.
• He asked about three personalities in a row and I have never heard of them. So I dropped those questions.
• A question about NSG. Answered

Madam Qureshi’s questions were mostly opinion based and they were as following:
• Do you think that there can be another Arab Spring sooner or later? Answered
• She asked about the shale-oil discovered in North America and asked about its implications on US-Saudi relations. I answered in detail
• She asked something about ISIS and the strategy of the west. It was answered.
• She asked for my opinion that if I think PTI would be back on the roads? Answered

I thought that with the last question by chairman, questions from nuclear portion were over but Wajid Rana sb picked up exactly from chairman sb left. He asked.
• The first question was about some peace initiative. I did not understand the question and I wonder why I did not dare to ask it again. So I dropped it. Rana sb clearly did not seem happy over it as he expected me to answer it in detail owing to me master’s degree in the same subject.
• Why is there a deadlock at Conference of Disarmament? Answered
• What are Pakistan’s reservations on FMCT? Answered
• What do you know about recent arms control agreement between USA & Russia? I mumbled something but later I dropped the question.
• I can’t recall but we there were a couple of questions which involved NPT and NSG. Answered.
• Finally he asked that how do I see the future of Pakistan. I answered and then there was a follow up question which was I answered too.

Finally, Lehri sb’s turn came. He asked just two questions.
• What is the route of Economic Corridor. I did not know it exactly but I invented the route. Lol
• How the President of Pakistan is elected. I said some about the Electoral College and also mentioned provincial assemblies.

This was the last question asked from me. But it wasn't over yet. When they thanked me and I about to stand up, Rana sb smiled and said “By the way, MPAs are not the part of Electoral College which elects the President” I was in an awkward position because I was about to stand when he said this, I smiled back and said “ Sorry ! I did not know that. Do I need to sit again? Rana sb smiled and asked me that no I can leave.
That was all regarding the questions. I felt really good after leaving the room. Because it all happened in a friendly atmosphere. This listened attentively. It seemed they had all the time on earth to listen to my answers. So I took time to elaborate my answers with examples. I hope this can be of help for people next in row. No matter what is outcome, I really enjoyed giving the interview.

Duration of the interview is very long as per this year standard which is a good sign. It seems an "strategic interview" with all these Greek to me concepts. Best wishes with it.

@SunnyKhalid

Was IR one of your optional? Most of the questions seem to be from IR.
