Yes, its true IR hasn't been a very scoring subject but with good preparation and paper attempting skills you could land up in 60s which considering the scoring trends of IR would be a fine score. Having said that, the reasons of opting IR would be:
1) interest in the subject 2) help in subjects like Essay,CA,US history ,British history,European history etc 3) no better option left |

a. it has a very lenghty syllabus that could not be covered. b. sometimes current affairs dominates the paper. c. it also requires creative and analytical skills to make conclusions. d. marking is also tough. dear, it might not be true because it is my personal observation and experiece of the last two attempts. |

I obtained 47 marks with average preparation in css exam 2013 in this paper. I opted for it out of my own interest. So if you have interest U also opt for it, otherwise U can skip it. This subject can not be studied without ones personal interest, for it is vast subject and calls for due attention. And to deal with question paper, one needs to study subject strategically, otherwise It can not be covered. And High score can obtained in this subject if one understand question fully and has sufficient knowledge on topic and write to the point; beating about the bush is useless, for this not a single mark will be awarded for this activity; so just write to the point whatever you know. And also it is essential first imbibe basic points and topics of this subject then see those topics analytically and critically.
