Mode of election for Senate in Pakistan is given below:

a) Fourteen members are elected by the members of each Provincial Assembly.

b) Eight are elected by direct and free vote from FATA.

c) Two on general seats, and one woman and one technocrat including aalim are elected from the Federal Capital in such manner as the President may, by Order, prescribe.

d) Four women are elected by the members of each Provincial Assembly

e) Four technocrats including ulema are elected by the members of each Provincial Assembly.

f) One seat in the senate is reserved for minorities in each province."

Election to fill seats in the Senate allocated to each Province are be held in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote.

There are four provinces of Pakistan, so we have four provincial assemblies.

Direct election is a term describing a system of choosing political officeholders in which the voters directly cast ballots for the person, persons or political party that they desire to see elected. Free voting means free from any irregularities and influences.

Q2)What is meant by as the President may,by Order, prescribe...are they choosen by President...Does President nominates them.

It means that method to fill these seats shall be determined by President.

Q3)what is a technocrat?

A technocrat is a person who holds degree on the basis of sixteen years spent on acquisition of education from a recognized university and have twenty years experience to his credit in his field duly recognized on national and international level.
