It has been said that "The Akbar's soul arrived in this world by three centuries in advance". This has been said by the experts because the spirit of Indianism & process of Indianisation that started in the 18th Century was speculated by Akbar. Hence it can be proved easily that Dain-E-Elahi was not a religion but more an "Order" from a Ruler loved by the ruled.

Following are some merits & demerits of this ORDER:

Demerits:

1. In opinion of some historians, Din-E-Ilahi give away to much to Hindus, The Rajputs & the Sikhs that was engouh to shake the foundations of the Empire. They became independent to the extent that it became difficult to control them by the rulers who followed Akbar.

2. The role of Theologiens or Ulemas was minimized to such a level that a feeling of hatered was developed in their disciples.

Merit:

Indian Historian especially are in all praise to this order.

1. The allegation that it was a religion is rejected by most of the historian, it was more an imperial order and not a religion for it has not a single characteristic of Religion.

The argument is supplimented by the fact the courtiers of Akbar were not forced to follow the New Din-E-Elahi. Even the Rajputs like Father-in-Law of Akbar & The Finance Minister of Akbar refused to follow it completely but retained their offices.

2. The dream of Akbar as to raise the felling the Indianism in the nation. He wanted to be the both Religious and the Political leader of the country. By crafting this Religion his intention was to remove the differences between the different sects that was the basic hinderence in building up & maintenance of a large empire. This is clear from the fact that after getting dishearted from the speeches of the Sunni Muslim Theologiens, he consulted Hindus, Christians, Parsis etc and observed reverences for their believes.

He started Jharoka Darshan, Stopped eating meat, observed reverence for fire etc just to crub hostile feelings.

Dear,

Your question is quite confusing as Ain-i-Akbari is a third book of Akbarnama which contains;
1. History of Akbar's regin
2. Akbar's administration, statistical reports and the Ain (Law)

I am not sure what do you mean by merits and demerits of Ain-i-Akbari (a book of history). However, the detailed information abour Ain i Akbari is as follows;

AIN I AKBARI

1. Introduction :

The Ain-i-Akbari is detailed document recording the administration of emperor Akber's empire, It was written by his Wazeer, Abu"l-Fazl ibn Mubarak ,This was the third volume of Akbernama.

2. Objectives:

a. The Ain-i-Akber third volume of Akbarnama contains information regarding Akbar’s reign.
b. It contains administration reports, statistical compilations, or gazetteers and the Ain (i.e., mode of governing) of Akbar, and is, in fact, the administration report and statistical Return of his government.

3. Translation:

a. Its original persian text was translated into three volumes
i. The firs volume,translated by H. Blochmann (1873)
ii. The second volume, translated by Colonel H.S. Jarrett (1891)
iii. The third volume, also translated by Colonel H.S. Jarrett (1896).

4. Conclusion

The Ain-i-Akbari had also been divided into five books. The first book deals with the imperial household and the second with the servants of the emperor, the military and civil services. The third book deals with the imperial administration, containing the regulations for the judicial and executive departments. The fourth book contains information about Hindu philosophy, science, social customs and literature. The fifth book contains sayings of Akbar along with an account of the ancestry and biography of the author.
