REAL DEVELOPMENT SHOULD TRANSFORM PEOPLE’S LIVES, NOT JUST ECONOMIC STATICS.
OUTLINE 1. INTRODUCTION Real progress does not lie only in economic growth. True development encompasses inclusive socio-economic growth, intellectual development, sanctity of human rights, and enlightened ideas. 2. DECONSTRUCTING THE STATEMENT IN ITS HISTORICAL CONTEXT. i. Socrates and intellectual development. ii. Plato and real development. (i) Four platonic virtues. (a) Justice, courage, wisdom, moderation. iii. Reformation era and martin Luther’s struggle for real development. iv. The enlightenment and industrial revolution. (i) Flowering of ideas and reason. (ii) Humanism. (iii) Postmodernism and real development. (a) Religious tolerance. (b) Internationalism. (c) Environmentalism. 3. SCHOLARLY VIEWS ON REAL DEVELOPMENT. i. John locke and civic sense. ii. Voltaire and humanism. iii. Bertrand Russell and importance of knowledge and ideas. 4. WHAT DOES REAL DEVELOPMENT SIGNIFY HERE. i. Inclusive socio-economic growth and social justice. ii. Democratic institutions. iii. Aesthetic appreciation. iv. The sanctity of human rights and religious tolerance. 5. THE CONTEMPORARY DEVELOPMENT AND ITS NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES. i. Widening socio-economic disparity (a) 14 percent rich, 86 percent poor. ii. Proliferation of nuclear weapons. (a) Around 16.500 nuclear weapon in the world. (b) Around 1000 nuclear weapons are on hair-trigger alert. iii. Mass consumerism and global warming. iv. The exploitation of the poor. v. Democracy and fundamental rights are under cloud because of corruption. 6. HOW TO INTERNALIZE TRUE DEVELOPMENT. i. Inclusive socio-economic growth. ii. Strengthening democratic institutions. iii. Appreciating aesthetic sense. iv. Safeguarding human rights. v. Investing in the human capital. vi. Gender equality and women empowerment. 7. CONCLUSION In a nutshell, real development lies in social justice, intellectual pragmatism and sound civic sense. INTRODUCTION (STARTED WITH CHINESE EXAMPLE) China has pulled out around 800 million people of poverty since Deng Xiaoping’s reforms in the 1980s. This development has been achieved at the cost of environmental degradation and the exploitation of the blue-collar workers. Economic growth at any cost is the slogan of contemporary times. Donald trump’s America first also depends on economic, growth. Lamentably, the world has turned a blind eye towards the human rights, intellectual progress and aesthetic sense. Man has become a robot which has no feelings and emotions. (My intro was of two pages, total essay 15 pages) |
