Default Pakistan trained militant fighters against India in Kashmir - Musharaf

SPIEGEL: Is there anything that you regret -- for example, your secret Kargil Operation, which led to an armed conflict with India in 1999, your arbitrary changes to Pakistan's constitution, your dismissal of the country's highest judge, the lack of concern for Benazir Bhutto's life after her return or your oft-criticized mild treatment of religious militants?

Musharraf: The West blames Pakistan for everything. Nobody asks the Indian prime minister, Why did you arm your country with a nuclear weapon? Why are you killing innocent civilians in Kashmir? Nobody was bothered that Pakistan got split in 1971 because of India's military backing for Bangladesh (which declared independence from Pakistan that year). The United States and Germany gave statements, but they didn't mean anything. Everybody is interested in strategic deals with India, but Pakistan is always seen as the rogue.

SPIEGEL: Why did you form militant underground groups to fight India in Kashmir?

Musharraf: They were indeed formed. The government turned a blind eye because they wanted India to discuss Kashmir.

SPIEGEL: It was the Pakistani security forces that trained them.

Musharraf: The West was ignoring the resolution of the Kashmir issue, which is the core issue of Pakistan. We expected the West -- especially the United States and important countries like Germany -- to resolve the Kashmir issue. Has Germany done that?

SPIEGEL: Does that give Pakistan the right to train underground fighters?

Musharraf: Yes, it is the right of any country to promote its own interests when India is not prepared to discuss Kashmir at the United Nations and is not prepared to resolve the dispute in a peaceful manner.

SPIEGEL: And how can a nuclear arsenal be safe when high-ranking officers support proliferation or even personally profit from it, as has been alleged? The nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan claims that the Pakistani army monitored and organized deals with countries like North Korea and Iran.

Musharraf: That is wrong, absolutely wrong. Mr. Khan is a characterless man.

SPIEGEL: What did the United States offer you in exchange for getting control of the nuclear weapons in Pakistan?

Musharraf: I would be a traitor if I had ever given our nuclear weapons to the United States. This capability is our pride and it will never be compromised.

Indian Reaction:

New Delhi, Oct 6 (IANS) India Wednesday said former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf's reported remarks about Pakistan training militants against India in Kashmir confirmed what it has been saying all along and asked Islamabad to honour its commitment not to allow its territory for anti-India activities.

'This is a widely accepted fact and General Musharraf's assertion only confirms the veracity of what we have been repeatedly saying over the years,' external affairs ministry spokesperson Vishnu Prakash told reporters here.

'This is precisely why India has sought a firm and abiding commitment from Pakistan that it will not allow its territory and territory under its control to be used for the aiding and abetting of terrorist activity directed against India and for providing sanctuary to such terrorist groups,' he says.

"The recent statements issued by him also reflect his morality and personal character," the Daily Times quoted Hassan Nisar, as saying. The opposition leader said he would also quote a female PML-Q parliamentarian who had called Musharraf a characterless man.

He is simply trying to make points on such issues.
These cheap sort of activities do not suit an ex-president.

We ask him that where was he when such activities were performed in his Govt???

Default Double Cross

General retd Mushraf ruled pakistan for almost nine years. His rule was dependent on 3 power centers, first Army, second US and third was the people of pakistan by winning some politicions.I think he still belives that if he could win over two of these power centers he would be able to acquire the thron.i believe his recent statement about kahsmiri fighters is intenden to win the international support. And according to some analyst in BBC news, its an effort to be in the international news.
The statement doest mean anything more than this.we have already withdraw our support form the kashmiri freedom fighters.

lets suppose once he again get into power he would do the same thing with US which he has smartly done in his first inning,i would say it double cross.

By bickering about such topics Mushi is not doing any good to his Political cause. His hysterical statements show that he is fully confused and being guided by irrational motives. He is trying to wage an unnecessary psychological war on the democratic icons.I do not think that he can win any lucrative card by such cage-rattling.

This certifies his nature of politics which he has thought for the coming time in pakistan...
Its a better reply for those who had been in support of MUSH

No doubt, Pak was training and still training too. Kargil adventure is the vivid example of it.

This is not the issue that whether Pakistan trained someone or not?
But the problem is with him that this is not the way to bash in such a way just to get his consideration from the world.

Angry what you did musharraf....

Musharraf is a real commando.getting out of control at rapid speed.not afraid of the consequences.

Although he is right but Cmon Musharraf, deceit is also some thing.hypocracy is the name of some thing.

God didn't created these evils without purpose.sometimes they are good to be followed.

Just hide all secrets, put the cloack of hypocracy on your deeds.
Kashmir is our life line.we will never surrender that territory.we will get that by all means good and bad.Kashmir is ours or nobody's.

Musharraf should not indulge in irresponsible talk.even if he is right.some things are better to be kept as secret.

Mujhahidden in kashmir and their struggle is reality and our army supports them but plz dont remove the cloack from all those secrets.

hide that and dont tell but remove your enemies without telling them.dont give your enemies a chance to subdue you or accuse you.

like a termite eat their roots and invade their structure.and make it hollow within.

Gul Niazi I respect your comments, but dear mate, the thing irritates us the most is, why he has that much greed of power? Why now politics? If he wants to do something superb for PAKISTAN, he would have launched NGO or Social welfare work like: Abdul Sattar Edhi or Dr Adeeb Rizvi?

Why he wants power again? Illogical to see his stupid appearance with extremely foolish talks now, it seems he lost his senses, when he was in power, he was much appreciated and he tried to do some blunders which were successful but now he should bear the pain, rather saying sorry and asking for safe entry again? Calling CJ as his brother, sending greetings to army top brass, asking for support from urban population whom he have given nothing but pain and showed his aggressive style by telecasting speeches with Mukka, do you really think APML will be successful?

I can bet on it, people have senses, visiting the APML launching ceremony with sophisticated arrangements done by Atiqa odho and some other beautiful ladies can bring 5000 people, but this doesn’t mean he has developed vote bank

People of Pakistan should set an example by punishing him this time; this will be history and warning for others, and GROW UP MUSHRAF!

Regards,
