Post pak ussr relations

it is noteworthy that USSR could be a paramount comrade for Pakistan if Mr liaqat ali khan visited USSR in the wake of USSR invitation but unfortunately he rejected and we stayed in loss. USA is not trustworthy allay of Pakistan and owing to decisive policy of USA we never be beneficiary of its comradeship. usa harmed us at every crucial time. PAK-USSR friendship could be a major block in the region to balance the Indian strategic power.

Is there is a signal of change in foregin Policy of Pakistan? looking answer from senior members of css forum..

Cordial bilateral ties between both contries is going to be a win-win situation for both countries. As far as question of what Russia can offer to Pakistan is concern, Ruusia has a lot to offer Pakistan in political, economic and diplomatic sphere.

1. Russia, being a major international player and veto-weilding power, can help Pakistan to counter the prospect of isolation at international level which Pakistan may face in the wake of closer Indo-US ties.

2. In the age of multilateralism, Russian support for Pakistan to become SCO member can help Pakistan's cause agreat deal.

3. On economic front, Russia is also one of the most resource-rich region in the world. Being a huge energy hub, she can help Pakistan reduce the ongoing energy and power woes.

4. In military perspective, Russia is a major arms seller in the world. To be precise Russia is envolved in 24% of wold's arm sale, ony second after US (30%). Her military might can come handy for Pakistan to keep its minimum deterrence.

Moreover, Russia and Pakistan share common grounds on pivotal domestic and international issues, e.g.

* denouncement of US drone policy
* both have genuine interst in Afghanistan
* commonality of views on Iran and Syria.

It is important for Pakistan to maintain equilibrium of power in coming years. As America being on the looser side in the war against terrorism, will be leaving the afghanistan in coming few years. In such a condition, where Pakistan will be left alone coping with the law and order situation in the region along with other countries bordering with Afghanistan such as Russia and Iran, has to make a strategic partnership in order to handle the problems which will be left by America and NATO allies.
It is a wise step from our think tanks to initiate a good strategic relationship with Russia.

How come US supporting TTP (Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan) is there any conclusive evidence or just a sweeping statement. Because as far as their Ideology is concerned, it is exactly the same as that of Afghan Taliban, i.e Deobandi school of thought. Their brand of Islam is same as of Afghan Taliban, is there any difference between their beliefs? Most of their leaders are educated from the same seminaries of Akora Khatak and Jamia Banoria of Karachi.
