Arrow Expected visits of High profile persons.

Pakistan and India have move forward in fields of trade, energy and cultural exchange . Manmohin sing visit is being scheduled in December ;based on condition.what India expects more from Pakistan because it has already softened its diplomacy towards it . In comparison with Manmohin Singh ,Putin meeting was scheduled but it was delayed .What newspapers revealed that he laid down conditions;what both these wanted from Pakistan. We already witnessed Obama never visited Pakistan in its tenure .He even refused to meet with President zardari in NATO Chicago summit. So all these have interests;USA interests are evident but what other wanted is not clear . If it is ,then what will you people likely to say!

There is no harm in having good relations with neighbours. It will be mutually beneficial for both countries.

Right, let me try and analyze;
Of course the trio-USA,India,Russia- you have mentioned have their interests all around and Pakistan is a key player.
First,Bilaterally India wants Pakistan to trial the 26/11 Mumbai perpetrators, most notably Hafiz Saeed, unless this doesn't happen, it is difficult for Manmohan to visit Pakistan as it would be an unpopular decision. Then India is busy in widening its strategic interests in Afghanistan. It is also investing in (70m$ so far) Tajikistan is establishing a military base (Ainee) their as well (although Tajikistan is refusing due to Russian pressure). If India is successful in the future in getting base, the distance between Azad Kashmir border & its base will be reduced to merely 16 Kms. Hence India wants to sandwich Pakistan from all sides.

Most probably Russian interaction with Pakistan is due to their concerns regarding Afghanistan, once US leave Afghanistan in 2014. The Russian's know Pakistan has a role in Afghanistan, their concern is manifold, neither they prefer Taliban regime in Afghanistan because they feel Taliban govt will have its impact in Muslim Central Asian
States, neither they want US led Nato forces to stay their for long.
As for as US is concerned, they don't care about Pakistan too much. Their major chunk of troops are leaving Afghanistan in 2014 but their guerilla and aerial forces will stay in Afghanistan along with Major CIA presence, other than that they want India to expand its influence in Afghanitan in order to check generally Pakistan and particularly Iran & China.

It is time for peace now. Enough hatred has been seen by citizens of both neighbours.

hi to all .
ndia and Pakistan have signed a visa liberalization agreement and reactivated the joint commission during the last round of foreign minister level talks in Islamabad. These are significant steps forward but lot more can be done to make the process of bilateral engagement irreversible.

Gash! All major foreign policy issues clubbed togather. OK, lets starts by analyzing What, India, Russia and US want from Pakistan.

Indian Demands:
1. Fair and early trial of Mumbai terror attack sponsors mainly Hafiz Saeed head of LeT and those presumably assisted from Pak establishment.
2. Stoppage of all proxy wars in India and Afghanistan.
3. Accept Indian dominating role in Afghanistan.
5. Phase wise resolution of territorial disputes i.e Siachin, Sir Creek and the Kashmir, through peaceful dialogue.
6. Complete liberalization of mutual trade. (full MNF status to India).
7. Accept Indian leadership role in the region.
These are few of the major foreign policy issue, governing mutual foreign relations.

Russian Demands:
1. Clear distance from American influence.
2. Grant Iran-Pak gaspipeline and TAPI construction projects to Russian firm Gazprom.
3. Make substantial development in mutual trade ties, not mere MoUs.
4. Sit with India to resolve issues through diplomacy and dialogue.
5. Stop sponsoring extremism and militancy in the region.
6. Support Iranian Nukes program diplomatically.
7. Most importantly, work for peaceful and stable Afghanistan, develop ties with Northern Alliance and stop all out support to Pushtun Talibans.

US Demands:
1. Pak must stop its dual game and become an ally.
2. Help broker a political truce with warring Talibans as the 2014 endgame time approaches.
3. Stop cross border infiltration across the Durand Line, Launch operation against militants in FATA region.
4. Stop cooperation with Haqqani group and recognise Haqqanis as a potential security threat to Pak and consequently launch military operation against the Haqqanis.
5. Talk to India on all issues and resolve problems through dialogue.
6. Improve governance and reduce influence of establishment, ensure rule of law and HR.
7. US has concerns over Pak Nuclear program.
8. Pak must play a positive role in Afghanistan's economic, political, social and regional development after 2014, troops withdrawal.
9. Pak-China ties are also of concern for US.

These are just few of the major demands from three above mentioned states from Pak. I tried to address the question of respected member (Sadia Shafique).
Criticism is welcomed, please.
Regards.

Thanx dear for discussing it . One thing India relations with USA will establish very friendly after withdrawal.USA main concern is Haqqani network .Pakistan will never meet with their demands because India is authorize for the training of Afghan police .So what I understand both wanted infiltration of haqqani network .will pakistan do it .Hope so not ,what would be the future picture

Pakistan foreign policy has become dilemma itself ;confused between USA and Russia ,china.what do you think will pakistan move forward towards India,USA or Russia and China. Pakistan wanted SCO membership ,for the case it will helpful in eradication of insurgency in Baluchistan and Borders area. Will pakistan be able to meet Russia demands ?

No i dont think We lost either of the countries.

It is the National Interest of a country which is at the base for shaping foreign policy vis a vis any country in the world. Please correct yourself; TAPI has not started yet, only MoU signed and other documents and codal formalities. What we offer to Russia is that We offer a cometitive bidding as per international SOPs, but contrary to this Russia wants a direct contract awarding facility from Pak govt.

As far as action against Haqqanis is concerned, Pak govt and military do not see Haqqanis as a hostile force challenging Pak state. Instead, Pak sees Haqqani group as 'Good Talibans', who are ready to accept dialogue and can facilitate any political settlement with the warring Talibans in Afghanistan, since they are Pushtun and have close links with Taliban (Pushtun) in Afghanistan.

The future foreign policy will be some thing like this:

US-Pak reproachment over Afghanistan 2014 endgame.
2. Pak may take cosmatic actions against Talibans (Haqqanis). Hence, Pak will play a key role in facilitating a political dialogue.
3. Pak foreign policy in US-Afghanistan game will be seen from Indian perspective, as Pak does not want India to take hegemony in Afghanistan.
4. Pak-US ties will remain in the cold stagnation as US will wait for the next Govt after the Polls to set new foreign policy parameters and understandings.

5. Relations with Russia will be dominated by Pakistan commitment towards energy cooperation in the region especial TAPI and IP and CASA 1000.
6. How Pak will assist Russia in developing a new road-rail link (energy corridor) in the region from CARs to Afghanistan and then to Pak and India.
7. How Pak will chew on the US bait as the 2014 deadline approaches.

whereas, Pak govt will try to broker a peace settlement which is not hostile to Pak interests in Afghanistan.
2. Pak will want foreign forces to exit as early as possible.
3. Pak military will continue to fight militancy.
4. Relations with India will be dominated by Pak role in prosecuting Terrorists.

Regards.
