Role of Democracy in the last 5 years?
Whenever, i write on democracy, words of Aristotle ;"Democracy is when the indigent not the men in property are the rulers" come in the chamber of my thoughts.
What do you think, what role has democracy played in our society? Can ,anyone of you, shade light on the role of democracy in the last 5 years? What changes has it brought in Pakistan and how do u see its future? Regards, Waqar Abro |

the word democracy is derived from two words demos means people and cracy means power hence it means democracy is the government of people. through out the world those elected governments are considered democratic which fulfill the needs and desires of majority of people. while in our beloved country the first democratic government is going to complete its term for the fist time in the history of pakistan. it is a good sign for the power of people but unfortunately poeple of pakistan is deprived of its basic rights on the eve of completion of democratic government. youth has remained unlucky and ignored class of society who could not get merit in there democratic government, in nutshell meritocracy is still a dream for the educated and most talented youth of pakistan. law and order situation is a condition which is still under consideration inside the walls of democratic parliament of pakistan. we do not know how and when our democratic government will implement its policies to curb the violence, bad law and order situation which is completing its first democratic term. people of pakistan ask from our democratic leaders that for what achievements they are celebrating the end of their term? even though we have lost our properties, loved ones, homes and peace. in this situation who can justify that pakistani democratic government was the servant of people? in the last five years it was not the government of people and for the people.

InshALLAH! the new setup of government will show us the more brighter, more powerful and prosperous Pakistan. I have to agree with the truth that Pakistanis have been victim of sectarian violence, economy collapse and corruption most of the times in those 5 years, however the legislation the current parliament has passed in its last few days will be taken seriously by the new setup inshALLAH! It is important to mention the Law of harassment at work for women, law to protect children from abuse, anti-terrorism act, improved law for minorities, IP gas pipeline agreement and some others are the steps that should have taken way back by the government but all well that ends well!!!! Being a Pakistani we should expect prosperity and prevailing of justice in our country and soon we all will witness the success of our homeland the great Pakistan. inshALLAH! I am sorry if any person, group or circle of society has/have offended by my views. Thank you |

well we can't gauge the role that democratic institution played in our country in just 5 years because the real fruits of democracy can be reap when it is given a chance spreading over many decades...in our country the case is different ,democracy has just begun albiet the fact that our country got independent more than 60 years ago but due to militry interventions democratic process was now and then interrupted..........we often give example of the western democratic countries particularly U.K ans USA but we should not set aside the fact that how toilsome was the period spreading over many years when the parliament ()slowly and gradually got powers from the monarch..remmbr the parliament acts of 1911 and 1949..so i think its to early to talk in terms of any role of democracy in just 5 years because given a true and uninterruptible chance can we only expect democracy to play a role.

To me , democracy has brought revolutionary changes in Pakistan.
Although, it failed to adopt western or welfare-oriented democratic norms. What i have observed in the last five years that a rickshaw driver does not think like he was thinking 5 years ago. He is intellectually and politically liberated. This is the beauty of democracy that people are liberated from shackles of desperation and disparity. I can give plenty of examples in this regard. Intellectual bankruptcy was the main issue that always prevented Pakistan to emerge as a regional power. Today, human security is given more importance than border security. Though, defense budget has not been lessened yet pressure on Army is there. On the whole, democracy is the best form of government if its style of governance is changed in Pakistan. Regards,

The democratic Government no doubt based on certain law and constitution but implication is equally important as its formulation. unfortunately the democratic government has failed to fulfill the demands and needs of people. there has been a shortage of basic of basic requirements of people. no setup has established for secqurity, for water, gas, electricity crisis. bureaucracy remained uneffective. As far as future is concerned from now our first priority is to become united no sindhi, no punjabi, no balochi, we have to cast vote only by being Pakistani to deserving party if we wish to see bright future! voting must be done without any personal interest, fear and influence of political party.
