I ve passed without any study!
For those of first attempt:
Believe me its so easy if you really wants to do it!.... I ve got 62 % in first attempt... buy any book... whatever you may choose ... it doesnt matter! buy a book, see what type of questions will come in exam...and make your mind for that type of questions! You need is to make your mind that in exam hall you have to use your full brain! Note: You will have to solve analytical questions on rough pages in exam instead of solving them in mind. |

My experience about GAT General for Mphil
I have a very unique experience.A week before the test I made up my mind for M phil. But when I enquired abt the admission from university, they told me that GAT general must be passed before the admission. So I saw NTS web site , only 4 days were left for test.I submitted late fees of 1000 rupees and took the form with ID card and fees slip to the test center on the test day, they alloted me roll no and allowed me to sit in the hall. I had not studied it seriously and just took it as a chance. The test was on 5th july AND I had no experience of that test before. I tell you what I did. First of all I solved english portion, from where I got 34 right out of 40 Then I started solving math portion ( after spending some time on analytical but it was time consuming so I left it for later) in this portion I got 17 right out of 30. A very funny thing in the end .I was left with only 5 minutes and the whole analytical was to be solved .So I just randomly filled the round circles with blach marker. Here 6 out of 30 tukkas were successful. so accumulatively I got 57 marks and my standing in that particular test was 90.8 %. so time manegment is the key for success. If I had proper time for analytical portion, definitly I would have 18 to 20 correct and my score would be more then 70. so my opinin and suggestion is....Do the english and math portion in the first hour and let the second hour reserved for analytical. rgds |

Doc Atif! your post recall me experience of my GAT for M.PHIL last year. And i want to share here too.I hardly get time for preperation as in was busy I was busy in my job.So i had only one day and that was Saturday I jst practised anlytical and Maths lilttle bit.Next day wen i was in examination hall i did wt i had in my mind in following manner:
First of all i did english portion. You can do it very well if you are good at vocabulary and english prepositions. Secondly i did Maths bcoz u have rough sheet to solve questions and u have solid marks. Thirdly i move towards analytical portion bt keep in mind time management is pretty much important. If you did English and Maths portion quickly the you will have enough time for anlytical because its time consuming.. At the end i did round about 25 questions randomely, fill circle widout reading (lack of time) I agree with you Dr.Atif that to do english and Maths portion in first hour is key to success because you can do even better if you have good preparation and rest of time should be given to analytical. I prepared that test in only one day i got 55. If i had well planned study (if i would have time) then i would have good marks than 55.Bt i have cleared it for my M.Phil. Regards R

Yea you are right but the thing matters in GAT is do well whatever you have done...You know in last 5 min i filled circle blindly without reading question. If you have done Maths and English portion well then u will get good marks because analytical is bit tricky and take time.English portion contains 40 marks while Maths portion has 30 marks if you can get 50 out of these 70 marks then u will get passing marks and will clear test and if you are good in both sections then you have sufficient time for other questions to be solved also. And if u have done 3 or 5 tukkas right then see it will be good only because of both these portion bt if someone is best in analytical skills then it does wonders. Regards

My Marks = 87
Suggestions (Primarily for Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities): 1. Give importance to the Arithmetic/Quantitative portion. These are solid marks. Since we have not the background for Arithmetic, we usually take it for granted. These questions are not difficult at all. Try to master basic algebra, series & sequences and such sort of questions. (I got 23/25) 2. Similarly, analytical reasoning is how fast can you think while correlating a number of variables mentioned in one question. It is like how fast can you process and what is your "processing speed". Again, simple question just disguised with complex statement. Focus is the key here. (I got 23/25) 3. English portion is not cramming vocabulary items. It is good if you can remember hundreds of words but GAT is more like "language in use". This has been my mistake. I was too busy in remembering words. (I got 41/50) 4. Time management: With Arithmetic and Analytical Questions at hand you have to be take most out of the given time. I couldn't plan distribution of time properly and hence paid the price in English portion. My strategy of attempting GAT: I started doing Arithmetic portion first, then analytical and English at the last. You may have your own. Practice in advance to have an idea about time management. I hope this helps. Regards |

I have given Gat test 3 or 4 times and every time I attempt the English portion first, then Quantitative and in the last analytical portion. It is better to have as much time in analytical as u can.because analytical portion is most difficult and it requires lot of time.I suggest everyone to have a watch with them.so that they can guess how much time they have left.
