Help Required - Subject Selection in BA Examination
I am in a state of dilemma regarding the selection of optional subjects in BA Examination ( private candidate ) of Punjab University.
Q. 1 Which subjects are scoring? I want to opt for English Literature. But many people say that it's NOT a scoring subject. IS IT TRUE? Q. 2 How do you rate Journalism, Sociology and Political Science? Q. 3 most important thing is that I want to take admission in PU Law College in LLB after BA. Are private candidates ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR LLB ADMISSIONS? |

1. As You Like It by Shakespeare 2. A Book of English Prose edited by Dr.Imdad Hussain (19 essays only) 3. The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy I scored 48/100 with just last night study. I made a mistake, if I had prepared it well, I could have scored a lot more. Quote:

I hope this will help you. Regards

Thanks a lot for your help brother, it really helped me.
English Literature Yes, my aim is to maximize my score in order to make my merit for law. After your suggestions, I'm kicking off Literature although I love Literature in general life but on marks, I can afford no compromise. Journalism I am going to opt this subject for 200 marks. Persian Here I'm confused. It is a language subject then why it's scoring? Secondly, being a foreign language, it will be difficult for me to prepare it without a teacher and I am private candidate. So, I think i will not go for it. Sociology What is your opinion regarding this subject. Is it scoring? I would like to opt it for 100 marks. Also give me your opinion and experience regarding International Affairs. Your response will be highly welcomed! |

No Experience regarding Sociology regarding the PU BA. I studied a course of Sociology in B.A Hons at FC College and it was very tough for me. I failed. I could not understand what kinda course it was.
Persian: Brother remember one thing, no regular candidates goes for Persian. Only and Only Private candidates opt Persian and get awesome scores. Persian is not difficult at all as I have heard. People just study it a week before the exams and get 80+. I myself wonder how easy it is for them although my remarks are always the same as yours. People prepare it at home. There is no tutor available for this subject. Its similar to Urdu and you know what, its fun to study Persian and Punjabi as I used to teach my brother, his friend and a cousin the compulsory subjects and we lived in one room that last month before exams. These 2 subjects ere really interesting as they are languages. In Persian you majorly have to make translations and then a few sentences and Persian idioms and easy stuff. Rest, you are mature enough to take a decision. Regards

Thank You
I'm very thankful to you for replying.
Since you have experience in preparing BA, I would like to know about some coaching centre or academy for BA where you or your friend have studied in Lahore. Moreover, how can I access the syllabus and suggested textbooks list of PU. On their website, I could only find syllabus and books for English Compulsory course. Thanks in anticipation |

Regarding academies, don't go for all subjects, find a good teacher for English only, that will be more than enough.
Islamiyat ki aik book hai, which consists of 67 Ayat and 20 Ahadis and 1 chapter on Life of Holy Prohet Sallaho Alaihe Wasallam and the last chapter on Islamic Civilisation. This paper will be of 60 marks. The rest 40 marks are Pakistan Studies. You are given 4 questions and you have to attempt 2 only which carry 20+20=40marks. Of those 4, 3 are from the course which we have been studying since grade 1 and 1 is an essay type question. It is always on Kashmir. What I mean to say is that prepare a good essay on Kahmir. English has a lengthy course which consists of poems, mosern essays, short stories, and 1 novel (Paper A) and paper B is always unseen. Its total grammar with an essay (25marks) and a comprehension/Precis (25marks). The rest 50 are divided in letter/applications, idioms, correction, Dialogue/translation. Thats it. start with English. Pick 1 book (of the 4) and start with anything, on daily basis. There is a lot of time in the next exams but if you start preparing now, you can be amongst the toppers I tell you.

I have another question for you. You mentioned that you studied for B.A (Hons) at FCC University, Lahore. What were your majors in BA (Hons). Did you appear in BA-PU while you were enrolled in BA (Hons)? Or you left FCC's BA for PU's BA? I mean, is it allowed to be enrolled for two degrees at the same time? Does it cause any legal or official complication or not? Please i'm asking this only because after much discussions and due to some parental advice by my father, I have decided to got admission in some 4-years honours programme. But since I've already registered and even prepared myself for PU's BA syllabus to a great extent, so I also want to appear in it. Will it be O.K or PU may cancel my degree afterwards. Thanks in anticipation |

Bro, I was not in any way criticizing you, I was just confused and asked you straight forward. I am really sorry if you got offended. By, mcom i guess you mean ''Mass Communication''. If yes, how is the faculty of mass comm at fcc? And what is the standard of media related facilities? I have heard that majors are NOT offered in first two years, rather general type subjects are taught. Is it true? I want to seek your opinion in this case. |
