Urdu as official language
As the Government has declared Urdu as official language of Pakistan and now Prime minister and other officials will address in Urdu in the country and abroad visits. How do you see this decision? Is it going to be implemented? If yes, how?

A very bad and an unfortunate decision. We are going backwards since 1947.

Urdu as official language
Nations feel pride in their national language so shall we. parallel to it ,Urdu language is no more a language of science, technology, art and politics so reverting back to Urdu is tantamount to arresting the intellectual growth. Urdu should be compulsory subject at every stage of academia, doing so ,will ensure that our national language keeps pace with modernity, meanwhile English should be our official language till we surpass the western civilisation in every-field.
If we are to learn from history then we should adapt to most advance language of the Era because this was practised by Muslims and then west to reach the pinnacle of glory. Muslims learnt Greek then replicated their work in Arabic and finally they produced their original thought in Arabic. Same was the case during renaissance of Europe. I would condemn scarping urdu language in it's entirety because national language is like honour and honour is neither scrapped nor abandoned |

@Monk
Don't you think its already late and will be too late if we keep on learning knowledge in a foreign language? We can promote a language only by using it. We cant keep it at stand by till we surpass western civilization. I am really anxious to see my nation following blindly unknown paths.... Losing their own identity. Research has shown that a man can show his full potential only in his own language. We can do better in other languages but cant do the best! Because our genes shape our mother tongue. But we are standing at a point where being student of Urdu medium knocks you out of a competitive system where a foreign language rules. Such students have to confront feelings of guilt. Why?????? I am not of the opinion that we should not learn english. I say we have to learn as many languages as we can but we should not do this at the cost of our own language. We should learn english to understand todays world and to get knowledge but we should give top priority to urdu! Everybody knows about China, France, Saudi Arabia and other developed countries where they prefer their own language over foreign languages. Why we are communicating here in english instead of our own language? You know what a lot of people hesitate to ask questions in class rooms, to participate in discussion at this forum or are unable to join civil service of Pakistan because they are not perfect in using "English" ..... Isnt this sad......? @Xing Lee I wish i could know how to write in urdu here........

I didn't ask for scrapping urdu or English in it's entirety. We should learn from english which is undoubtedly the most advance language of today's world and meanwhile we should enrich our national language. Once the enrichment of Urdu reaches to such a level that we can solely advance on the basis of urdu then we should shun English language

Delighted to see your use of urdu language in the posts. it shall be a historical decsion in the history of Pakistan, if implemented in letter and spirit. The real problem is faced by people living in rural areas while studying physics, chemistory, math, biology in english langauge . They are unable to understand what they are learning. They just cram and pass the exam. If this decision is implemented, especially the people living in rural areas which accounts for more than 65% of population will be greatly benefited.
Yes its true that for people like me who has almost completed their studies and are on the job, this decision will not be that much important but for our generation it will be. in the end it is requested that kindly elaborate the method of writing in urdu language in forum as lee has written. |
