Default Pms 2014

I have initiated this thread to share my experience of PMS Exam. You can post your queries regarding any matter related to "PMS" exam, service structure or career prospects.

PPSC has so far conducted 3 exams of PMS(Combined Competitive Exams) ,under new scheme, in year 2006,09 and 2012 respectively. In first two exams the number of candidates who successfully qualified the written part were less than the number of vacant posts. So marks in written part carried little significance, as One had to secure minimum passing marks in written and interview in order to make place in Final List.

However in last exam, held in year 2012, more than 500 candidates qualified written part against 112 posts. There was a cut-throat competition amongst the candidates as differnce of one mark only could change ' one's merit order by 10 points.

That said, for aspirants of upcoming PMS two aspects bear critical siginificance.

1- Subject Selection
2- Two Compulsory Papers :GK and English Essay

Subject selection is of critical importance. In last exam the only thing that decided the fate of written qualified candidates was the choice of subject. Some subjects remained highly scoring. Those law graduates who opted law were made to repent on their choice and same was the case in many other subjects.Last time i posted analysis in respect of scoring trends. I am posting its link that may prove useful

http://www.cssforum.com.pk/punjab-pu...-analysis.html

2- Majority of candidates who could not get through the written part flunked in the two subjects: General Knowledge and Essay. I 'll share my view on these tow subjects in next sitting. By that time you can post your quiries in this thread.Good Luck

Punjabi and social work are scoring subjects in Pms exam, mass communication and sociology average marks subjects.
Selection of subjects must be based on your intrest and background besides the factor of scoring.

AC s posts are not announced separately rather officers belonging to PAS/DMG and PMS are posted as ACs.

DSP posts cant be announced until amendment in Police Order 2002 is made and this seems not to be very likely, for two reasons. One, PSP Officers are against the induction of direct DSPs. Secondly 500 inspectors have been promoted agaisnt the posts of DSPs that were lying vacant from last 10 years. So there are no seats to be filled thorugh direct induction.

For Subject selection refer to my post No 1. Punjabi remained highly scoring in all the three exams previously conducted by PPSC. So my suggestion is to go for Punjabi but at the same time Keep your aptitude and interest in mind.

PMS Essay paper is of two hours so one has comparatively less time .However the required competencies are the same as that of CSS ie grammatically correct English, Relevant ideas, coherence etc

I scored 146 marks in Urdu. I beautified my paper with numinous poetic versis in almost all questions. So in addition to good langague skills good and relevant poetry can make you fetch good marks.

GK is really a critical paper. I ll give my analysis of the paper in a separate post.

PMS Career Prospects

There is greater horizontal mobility . In grade 17 one can be posted as AC, SJM, Secretary RTA, DMO, Assist Director Anti Corruption etc. However promotion process is slow due to number of reasons. But in future service structure of PMS is expected to get better. Some of our batch mates who were allocated to PAAS and OMG preferred PMS over these CSS Group. This is not to say that PMS is better than these groups rather it is matter of personal preference and individual circumstances.

Nothing can be said at this stage about scoring trends. But Punjabi has remained high scoring subject through out.

Commerce is very technical subject and can fetch very good marks if one has mastery over subject. Paper 1 consist of accounting and Finance. One can score good marks if one has mastery over basic concept of accounting and finance. Last time paper was very easy containing questions such as calcaulation of basic financial ratios, Bank Reconciliation etc . Many students secured over 90 marks in Ppaer A.

Ppaer B of commerce is theological except one question of taxation that is numerical. To secure good marks one must have command over economic knowledge , Auditing and taxation (ITO 2001 and latest Finance Act). This part is lenghthy as well as difficult. Last time commerce remained low scoring subject due to low scores in Paper B.One reason behind this, in my view, is that candidate with commerce/business back ground take this paper for granted and dont prepare it properly.Agant paper one that requires basic understanding , Ppaer B require good command and advanced knowledge of the subject.

You selection consist of technical subjects.Good conceptual base along with proper preparation can earn you good marks.

Though one's aptitude and interest must be kept in mind while selecting subject, the scoring aspect should not be ignored too.Economics is a technical subject with vast syllabus.Students of competitive exams , even with economics back grounds , normally avoid "Economics'. Last time a few students opted economics but it dint earn them good marks. In view of this, i 'll suggest you to not take risk. You can consider "Public Administration" as it has remained highly scoring subject in last three exams of PMS.
